How do I install phonon and use it? I can only find the package libphonon4.... As of now Phonon workswith KDE4 only - if you install KDE4 and start into it you can easily configure Phonon with the Sound-Module of the new Kontrol-Center. There is an important prerequisite for using Phonon with Jack:...

I wonder how apps like Ardour will work with Pulse. Simply put: not at all. Pulseaudio is a framework made for Desktop audio use - its for listeners, not for players. Ardour and its kind uses jack and stuff like pulseaudio does not interfere with jack at best. Of course pulseaudio can deal with jac...

It is somewhat distracting that the jack-ports of audacity only show up in qjackctl if you actually hit the play-button...
Thus many think, that audacity does not work with jack, while it does, as soon as you start the audioengine with play.

For your needs Rosegarden is the way to go. It is quite actively developed btw, there where 2 major releases in the last 12 months and quite a lot of bugfixing. The audiotracks in RG will do exactly what you describe: playing simple wavetracks to accompany your compositions on the MIDI-tracks. But d...

Maybe I misunderstand the concept of this forum, I at least don't understand these statements either. If I were on a forum talking about linux development, how to get linux to compete with alternatives, etc, I would understand all this, You mean, this thread has nothing to do with this specific par...

I'd like to have a really short and understandable introduction to Pure Data with links to some ready-to-run patches like a simple synth or a sampler.

So stop trolling if that was your intention. Even though I disagree with some of Michaels opinions also, I can assure you that he is absolutely no troll. He has spend a lot of work helping to promote progress in Linux audio. His JAD-project is essential today to make distributors aware that there i...

This - on the other hand, is a bit too negative. there is no negativity in to name what I'm missing (as a musician/producer) in the studio. If you say, that you miss a lot of functionality in Linux audio, that is perfectly OK - because thus you name facts from your point of view and out of your exp...

so I am I suppose fairly biased and/or ignorant. ;) It is a good idea, to close the eyes and be lucky in the own world. So it didn't hurt that the world around suffering of hunger for a "full blown" studio suite on Linux. ;) Well the my hunger is not yet silenced (more, better plugins wit...

Brief description of the FX-setup and how it works: 1.) The patch aims to emulate a "real" amp that is: low vol on the guitar should provide a clean sound. Having the volume at 10 one should produce the most freaked out metal-distortion. This goal can not be reached completely with every h...
