Re: u-he Repro 5 public beta (almost) released

Here is a guy playing a real Prophet 5 and switching to
the U-he Repro-5 public beta software emulation:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uFA_B6pP9AA

Pre-release price is still $99, and includes the Repro-1 'Pro One' synth emulation.
Great linux software.

Re: Nootka has continued getting updated!

I wonder if for guitar learning, it would be better to display
the neck in the position it is usually seen while being played?
Somewhat diagonally, so for a gui,
put the nut at upper left, about 2/3 up from
the bottom of the display. Nice to see that good
projects are being advanced.

Re: Building computer for a single homemade program

Tech recyclers should have many i7 systems for $200, often with a terrabyte drive, and plenty of ram, with a fresh win7 installed. Often these are good quality corporate write-offs, replaced in office upgrades. You can add an SSD for $50 to boot a fast linux, and use the win drive for storage space....

Re: New version Linux Sampler 2.1 released

For those who are sadly uninformed, the kvr NEWS page, is NOT a forum. http://www.kvraudio.com KVR do have a vast forum, with well over 100 subforums, and quite a few linux professionals and experts are members among them. (I myself am not an expert) Any linux musician would be well served with a kv...

Re: LinVST 64bit Deb Package *Try at own risk!

Hi, you'll have the best luck with linvst wrapped plugins using the linux versions of Reaper or Bitwig, a modern wine-staging (2.18 or newer) and in some cases, using the winecfg config panel's libraries tab to add some real versions of windows .dlls, which are easily downloaded. Which may be needed...

Re: Marketplace: for stuff that doesn't fit? Oh really?

Where people get the idea I hate foss is beyond me. I realize it's religion and ideology to some people, but the lack of full-frontal embrace at every turn, does not equate to hate. This is by far not the first post from you which end up to be reported as spam and be closed or deleted. Any time thi...

Re: Cakewalk gone on the long walkabout

I think the Gibson 'leader' has no passion for the tools that make music, and just fancy's himself a 'mover and shaker', only he sucks at even that, has driven several buyouts into the ground, and buried Gibson in debt. He needs to turn all his mirrors around for a few years, cut his salary by 90%, ...

Re: Cubase and ZOOM Guitar Lab

Sorry, I've no knolwledge of virtual machines at all. Assuming you've used Synaptic package manager to install qjackctl (it will bring in other needed apps automatically), find it's 'Periods/Buffer' setting and make it 3 (good for usb devices) Start your linux computer with the Zoom unplugged, and r...

Re: Cakewalk gone on the long walkabout

Thanks for unlocking! For those who read the comments after the article, one of them is from Paul Davis. Shameless to namedrop, But If it's readable enough for him, it's certainly worth a few minutes from me. Cakewalk chose windows, and only windows, at a time when cross-platform developements were ...

Re: Marketplace: for stuff that doesn't fit? Oh really?

Glad to see some discussion going on. I doubt most of us started using linux, and one day, thought, 'Gee, I think I'll become a musician!'. Rather, the other way around. Many non-computer-using musicians got their feet wet with Cakewalk or a competing product, and as time wore on, the limitations or...

Re: Marketplace: for stuff that doesn't fit? Oh really?

It has no relevance whatsoever. This is linuxmusicians not paidshillsforwindows. Ever wonder why the linux musicians community stays so small, and is often mocked if not villified? No, not really. I certainly don’t think it’s because people can’t shill dead Windows products on a linux-specific foru...

Re: Marketplace: for stuff that doesn't fit? Oh really?

This is the age of cross-platform developement, Bitwig, Reaper, and Mixbus all are linux/Mac/Win apps. And the vast improvements to wine-staging make a plethora of great apps and plugins available to linux musicians. Had the complainers taken a few seconds to read the link, they''d have known it was...

Marketplace: for stuff that doesn't fit? Oh really?

Cakewalk goes back to the Atari/DOS days of musicians starting to use computers. One of the longest running software houses in the m-a-r-k-e-t-p-l-a-c-e, ever. If one would have read the article I posted, it would be clear I'm not trying to drum up sales for them, as the company announced it closed ...

Re: Akai MK2 Mini, LMMS and Hydrogen

Found this from an Akai page in google: How do I assign separate midi channels for keys and pads on the mpk249? I know this shouldn't be hard and I must be missing something. I just want to play keyboard with the keys and use the pads for drum sounds. Here's how: 1) Press the EDIT button. 2) Press a...
