Re: Behringer Xenyx?
Yeah, better keep a discrete sound card + mixer, as you have now. It will very likely end up being a more durable setup = cheaper in the long run, I don't think that integrated USB mixer DAC would be an upgrade over your M-audio delta 44, probably quite the opposite... For the DAC, nowadays I'd sugg...

Thanks for the detailed report Be., this will be useful to quite a few people here
Out of curiosity: how low can you push the latency in class compliant mode, with let's say mixxx or anything a bit heavy like ardour?

Re: SSD optimization [Arch Linux]
Nice. That's pretty much in line with what I've done, save for the swap (none) and the scheduler (cfq).
I have a dual setup with / on SSD and /home on HDD and still have to try that mixed Noop/CFQ via udev...

FFADO support for the Saffire Pro14 is listed as experimental, but they seem to say it could possibly work:

Re: obligatory Which interface?
Scarlett +1 (I have a very similar 2i2 which works great for guitar). Anything Roland sounds more like trouble. No experience with the others. A bit on the high side of the price range, but you may want to include this one as well in your review (no first hand experience, but it has rather good repu...

Re: Renoise 3.1 (beta)
Thx sysrqer. I found Renoise to be in general a bit more heavy since the 3.x series, but in all fairness it still performs pretty well given the number of features added since 2.8. Actually I can't think of any faster application with comparable functionality (is there even any?). So a few xruns at ...

Re: Renoise 3.1 (beta)
Out of curiosity, are you guys using the 3.1 beta in a low latency jack setup and if so with what level of success? I'm running at the moment at 64*3@96K with a scarlett 2i2 (around 7msec round trip latency), but cannot avoid the occasional xrun - let's say around 10-15 per 2 hour session. My curren...

Re: Nearly 2016 but still no chiptune plugin for Linux!?
Ok, found it: No luck with the open sourced Buzz Machines, that SID generator was actually built in Neil Sequencer (as a "Lunar" module). I don't remember how good/bad it was, but there you go: https://bitbucket.org/bucket_brigade/neil/src/e782b43cf4ad34395bf638d096fa1f23ef19172b/libneil/s...

Buzzmachines - there's a possibly a chiptune generator buried out here:

Re: ableton link and live tempo changing
Never had the balls to try Jack tempo changing, but regarding Seq24 it may be a good idea to report this on the reboot project here: https://github.com/ahlstromcj/sequencer64

Re: Alternatives to Hydrogen?
I couldn't get very far with Hydrogen either, mostly because I'm used to trackers. So the recommendation here is Renoise (or it's little bro Redux - as already mentioned). Past the initial learning phase, you quickly find yourself flying on the keyboard without even touching the mouse and getting st...

Re: general aspects regarding hardware performances
@Aleks: the cmedia interface seems to live on its own usb bus - that's good. 256 buffer size with 3 periods @48k look reasonable. RT priority: set it to 89 (configuration dependent but usually a sane starting point). I doubt it solves the xruns issue, but it may help a bit. You should also have some...

Re: MPC like sequencer
Well, as a musician who still has ~15y of work stored on Buzz tracker and seen the rise and fall of multiple wannabe Buzz clones, I tend to be extremely wary before investing time and energy into a new sequencer. Given a long enough time it will get broken if not maintained. But that probably wouldn...
