Re: Why is JACK such a POS?
Hey Todd, Thanks for the reply. Near as I can recall, most likely had JACK Bridge going. so YouTube or something may be the culprit. I should make a handle that has my setup listed: my machine's average, i3 dual-core 2.4GHz, 4GB RAM, using an Alesis i04 via USB 2. In Windows I use a cheap Steinberg...

Re: KX mini manual
Well, I guess we've established that there's one thing VLC can't play nice with: JACK. If you have a program that doesn't work predictably and well with any other program, perhaps your program is the problem. ; ) Well really the problem here is making VLC work everywhere. That portability comes at ...

Re: Why is JACK such a POS?
It seems to me, that most of your problems have indicated an issue not with JACK but with JACK's interaction with ALSA. In lieu of a better diagram (I'll do that later when I'm writing docs) here's a rough sketch: Audio App | | Another Audio App | | | | ------JACK (1)---- | | (2) | Kernel --- ALSA |...

Re: KX mini manual
I'm no expert, but I think the problem isn't JACK but the way it is supported or not by different programs. Want an example? VLC does a bad job of supporting JACK  It has only a JACK connection showing up while playing (or while paused) but not stable, and thus harder to control. OT: This is b...

Re: Trouble installin 12.04.1 from usb
- I've never used the md5 check; I know I should, but usually everything's fine . . . I'm getting the same result with multiple downloads and types anyway. It's worth a try, will only take 30 seconds :) -Yep, formatted, the partition is 150 GB or so. -Couldn't run the disk check from KX install, di...

Re: audio doesn't work in a fresh installation of 64 bit ver
Yeh something is definitely not right with this. It should not take all this effort, for example even my fairly rare Echo Gina24 'just works'. Particularly of interest is audacity showing the card does not support *any* sample rates. WHAT DID YOU CHANGE since it was working when you posted just down...

Re: Trouble installin 12.04.1 from usb
Did you check the MD5 hash of the .iso file you downloaded? Is it the same as it should be? Did you format the USB stick to FAT32 before writing the ISO to it? How big is the partition? Have you run a disk check on the USB stick? Maybe it's corrupt/damaged. I used unetbootin, maybe you could try that?

Re: danboid FINALLY tries KXstudio!!!
I see where you're coming from but perhaps the name only seems counterintuitive because you didn't know the terminology - that was the case for me, at least. Now, I think it's fairly appropriately named. Todd, if you could explain, that would be really useful. I have found out what it does by exper...

I'd avoid that, as you stand the chance of just adding more drama to the mix.luster wrote:If I had this isssue, I would re-enable the MB sound system in BIOS
I would be interested to see jack logs when you attempt to set the correct soundcard (hw:0 is your HDMI card)

Re: danboid FINALLY tries KXstudio!!!
I've got 'Switch Master' to work now and I can see using that is going to be preferable to restarting JACK as its instant but I don't think 'Switch Master!' is a good label or description. How about 'Switch Device', 'Renew driver' or 'Refresh JACK IO' - any of those or something similar would be mo...

Bummed. Debian is a good choice no doubt. I just prefer arch, a whole whole lot. I'd probably put debian or redhat as 2nd though, so hey... It's not too bad

Re: Move KXStudio to ArchLinux?
You seem to be under the impression you need to reinstall Ubuntu twice a year. That's not the case: you can upgrade from one release to another. You seem to be under the impression that doing this does not usually result in a machine that f***s up a lot. I wish I had a dollar for every time I've se...
