Re: Best desktop for low latency performance?
It would be nice to see if there are any performance differences between every window manager/desktop environment with either an AMD A8-3870K Black Edition or an Intel Core i3 2130 (dual core with HyperThreading). Do note that this is not Intel versus AMD as Intel is always the king of performance.

Re: trying to debug pulseaudio problem
Ah, okay... I understand it now. With all that stuff it's getting very complicated in the Linux world... Maybe the new version of Cadence will step us away from the command line world... It's so 1990s... :( *shrug, frustrated* And yes, I am an advanced Linux user as I have a lot of experience, even ...

Re: [Feature Request] Cadence: Enable/Disable Modules with I
Okay, let's say you have something like this. There are 2 audio devices and 2 usb MIDI devices: audiio1 audio2 midi1 midi2 Let's say you want to select audio2, which is listed in Cadence: hw:1: audio1 [hw:2: audio2] hw:3: midi1 hw:4: midi2 Note that not all the devices are listed the samme order upo...

Re: [Feature Request] Cadence: Enable/Disable Modules with I
JACK by itself can do Audio, MIDI, Transport-Sync, Session management and Network broadcast - you don't get that anywhere else. Wasn't I comparing JACK to ASIO as to PulseAudio to Windows sound system? I don't think ASIO had any of that stuff, do they? We can auto-hide/disable specific devices in t...

Re: [Feature Request] Cadence: Enable/Disable Modules with I
Then wouldn't it be possible to just disable a device within Cadence? In the Windows 7 screenshot, what you see is that HDMI Audio is disabled. If I right-click in the list of sound card selection box, it gave me two choices with two of them checked: "Show Disabled Devices" and "Show ...

[Feature Request] Cadence: Enable/Disable Modules with ID
But the problem is, disabling snd-hda-intel is just like disabling usb-audio. If you have Akai MPK25 and Creative Labs Sound Blaster USB 5.1, you will not have both of them if you disable usb-audio. In other words, HDMI Audio and my sound card (with 2 headphone jacks and a microphone) will be disabl...

Re: trying to debug pulseaudio problem
That's great to know about reordering USB devices (MIDI keyboard and sound card). Thanks. And speaking of ALSA, is there a way to disable HDMI audio? The BIOS in my HP Pavilion dv7-6168nr does not have an option for disabling HDMI Audio and it will always stay in the first slot of hw0 or hw1 dependi...

Re: Best desktop for low latency performance?
My laptop (HP Pavilion dv7-6168nr) is a pretty decent machine for handling KDE without any problems with Kubuntu 12.04. I've had zero xruns except when it comes to turning PulseAudio when not needed. Before I turn off PulseAudio, I've had like 4.5-5% total CPU consumption, but after I turn off Pulse...

Re: crazy idea: Open-Source HD Orchesta Library
I'd be very happy to support that. Maybe the OpenOctave team would be happy to include it in the download section of oostudio-2012 and replace Sonatina.

Re: KXStudio 12.04 release plans
In addition to kwin, jackdbus, and a2jmidi bridge totaling up to 0.9% of CPU resources, PulseAudio uses more than 3.5%, which can total up to 5%. This is with a 10 ms latency. My CPU is AMD A6-3400 Quad Core APU (Accelerated Processing Unit). If I recall, the max CPU speed is 1.4GHz. I could use som...

Re: KXStudio 12.04 release plans
So why isn't meta-graphics going to be installed if I'm installing meta-all? Beats me. It just does not make any sense. Heh heh.
