Native Instruments Komplete and WINE

Hi Folks, I think I need a piece of advise. I would love to switch to linux but I can't just forget about software I'm used to and paid a lot of money to get which can't be simply sold because there are newer versions available etc. The situation seems to change from year to year, more and more prog...

AVLinux wikipedia article

Hello, I have just written my very first article on wikipedia. Because there was no page for AVLinux, I chose to create one. As I am not a regular user of this distro and my english skills are limited I ask you to check if everything is allright and if not, please correct mistakes. Feel free to expa...

Re: renoise the ableton alternative on linux

Renoise is not an alternative to ableton. It actually has nothing in common with ableton except it's a daw type software. I'm using it since 2005 and I can recommend it to anyone whose workflow is not based on recording. RNS is great for sequencing/music programing, awesome sampler, good at handling...

Re: KXStudio future plans

I submited a bug report where you answered that ubuntu is not clever enough to distinguish exception from a crash, that's what I meant. Despite this it is running smooth so I can't complain ;) You are doing a good work and I appreciate it!

Re: KXStudio future plans

looks very slick ;)

well, it may behave a little better in Ubuntu because it will not cause "crashes" (python exceptions).

Re: ardour3 package will not be available anymore

Maybe they'll not want packaging even when the final 3.0 version is out? I think sarcasm is not necessary. Sure, they could be a little more polite but on the other hand they made themselves clear they do not want packaging for some reason and taking their work into account I think it would be bett...

Re: Building a hardware reference

As far as I checked, EMU 0404 PCI works fine with alsa-firmware, needs some alsamixer tweaking. Everything was described nicely by LinuxDSP in this thread http://ardour.org/node/4061. After setting mixer settings I was able to record external hardware in Ardour. Emu users may find this app very han...

Re: KXStudio future plans

@stanlea: let me guess, wine 1.4? They reworked the audio engine and at the moment there is no support for devices other than ALSA (afaik).

As for the KXStudio plans, it's great to see carla rewritten in C++. Somehow I find python software less responsive... (just an impression though)

Re: KX Studio 12.04

I don't own Audigy 4 so I can't be sure but I have an emu0404 which has the same chip as Audigy 2 and it requires alsa-firmware to be installed. Check if your card need it too.

Re: jack1 vs jack2 discussion

So I am investigating all things linux audio recently, really trying to understand the why and how of certain things. Currently I am trying to understand why I would need Jack1 vs Jack2. It looks as though SMP is the biggest difference for my use. To that end I am trying to understand the following...
