here in Brazil it is verry, verry popular as "the first gear". Seems to be a good gear for the price. make sure to get Fast Track 2, as the first version didn't provide phantom-power

Looks like you need a crash course in levels and metering ;-) still learning a lot ;-) A digital source shouldn't push out 0dbFS, because then it would be clipping too. I don't see problems with USB-Soundcard in Linux. I have an USB1 soundcard: M-Audio Duo.......Nobody can use it in Windows because of latancy - thats why I got it verry cheap....In linux we have RT-Kernels, specelized systems.....I use it with 128 Frames/Period wich gives me a latancy which is unnot...
