Hey oscillator, thanks for the support and especially for listening. I am so glad you appreciate the songs. Sometimes I get distracted by the process (as we all do!) but the songs are definitely the most important thing to me.

Re: Launchkey Mini or MPK Mini Mk3 for use with Ardour?

I have the super cheap "Midiplus" brand AKM322, and everything (including the arp) works out of the box or is easy to map. 18x5x1.5 inches (it's tiny) and class compliant. No drum pads but you can use the keys. :D

Re: Tips needed for space savings...

There's definitely a hard limit to how much gear you can fit in a small space. I work in a tiny room and stow everything until I need it.

Inspiration for the kind of set up you desire can be found at https://reddit.com/r/musicbattlestations/. Some crazy stuff to be seen there!

Re: New album "Fiesta Red"

However long and arduous you have worked on it, you definitely know to make it sound effortless. Thanks for the good words Jeanette, I appreciate your thoughtful feedback. It was definitely not arduous, it was done quickly which is probably why it sounds that way--I left in a lot of "mistakes&...

Re: New album "Fiesta Red"

Thanks for listening Tenaba! Agreed on the MIDI editing, it is so easy to work with in Reaper.

New album "Fiesta Red"

Here's a new batch of tunes. I wrote them during the FAWM challenge and spent a couple months recording them. Not sure what you would call the genre, but I try to make every song have a different vibe. Songs are inspired by stuff like COVID lockdowns, Twitter, the "Great Resignation", Yach...

Re: Jammin....

It would be nice to have an all-in-one. Not free, but Maximal 3 (very different beast from Maximal 2) by Venomode is Linux-native and very, very good. It's a super flexible and easy to use limiter with lots of character, add an EQ if needed and the meters in your DAW. A little plugin chain like that...

Twangstrom from U-he is the only convincing spring reverb I've heard. Not free but it's native and a remarkable tool.

Re: AV Linux MX-21 Edition Released!

Wow, thanks for giving it a shot, G! This gave me an odd mix of the two wm.

Please don't spend any more time on it. I understand what you're going for with the lowest possible resource usage and this kind of stuff is not the point. :)

Re: AV Linux MX-21 Edition Released!

Excellent work as always Glen! Looking forward to putting AVL to work. Non-audio non-urgent question: Say someone had an Openbox aversion (yeah, I'm that shallow) and didn't mind taking the performance hit to use xfwm. What's the best way to do this without creating a mess? I tried deleting the the ...

Welcome! I spent a year in Moline and Davenport a long time ago. Enjoyed seeing the highly entertaining local band The Metrolites quite a few times. Looking forward to hearing what you get up to in Qtractor!

I have a Volca Drum (it's a synth not a sampler). Very powerful device with lots of sounds available considering its price. Definitely worth getting your hands on. The portability is great too.

Watching the preview now. I'm finally ready to jump onto the AVL world and I can't remember actually being this excited for a distro before. :) Looking forward to it!

I reached out to Bobby and he said he doesn't use Linux at all. He didn't offer an explanation for the video though.

His podcast is very good depending on your interest in whoever the guest is--worth checking out.

Re: Reaper MIDI vs. Mixbus MIDI

As a long-time user of Mixbus (since v3), I have to say MIDI on Reaper is considerably easier and more flexible than Mixbus. It's not even close. Re: plugins, there's really no significant difference since Reaper started supporting LV2. I switched to Reaper in December just to test it, but now I can...
