Re: Help me get back to a functional DAW (Xruns Galore)

I pretty much disabled everything I could disable: wifi, nic, bluetooth, WOL, USB wake, even the optical bay. Only thing I left enabled was external USB (since that's required for my audio interface). I was really hoping it was just WiFi, but that doesn't seem to be it. I kind of think the USB imple...

Re: Help me get back to a functional DAW (Xruns Galore)

Do the glitches happen when you're not using jack? I didn't think to try that, so I loaded up a file in audacity using ALSA straight to the audio interface. I get a glitch about every 12 seconds consistently. I kept an eye on audacity's output, as well as the system logs (kern.log, daemon.log, sysl...

Re: Help me get back to a functional DAW (Xruns Galore)

So I also tried a realtime kernel tonight. No difference. What it did help me realize is that this laptop has an Nvidia graphics chip, which means not only that realtime doesn't work out so well anyway, but also that it may just be the GPU locking up the system periodically. That might explain why t...

Re: Help me get back to a functional DAW (Xruns Galore)

On the old system, I was running 128/2 @ 44.1 and getting about 6ms of latency. On this system, I've had to back it off to 512/4 to get a reasonably low number of xruns, and the latency is horrid. I haven't messed with any of the other settings. I can't figure out why this system is so crappy by com...

Help me get back to a functional DAW (Xruns Galore)

So, I've been having these Ardour crashes on my arch/Core2Duo system, and a newer laptop (i5) became available and I decided to upgrade. First, I just swapped out the HDD so I could just have the same install on newer hardware. The crashes seemed to have stopped, but I was getting Xruns with the exa...

Re: Anyone else having Ardour 6 segfaults?

When you say "paid version", do you just mean harrison mixbus, or is there specifically a paid version of Ardour? I didn't see any reference to a paid version on the site. I don't object to paying for it, or it being proprietary per se, but I don't like having to manage software licenses ...

Re: Hydrogen 1.0.0 released

So glad to see probability in the stable release! I asked for this a while back only to find that it was already in the nightly builds. So I was running those for a while just to have that. I mostly use it to add ghost notes here and there or drop an off-beat kick occasionally to humanize a beat. C...

Re: Anyone else having Ardour 6 segfaults?

Limited direct experience but I've tried the free version on Kubuntu 20 and got indeed continuous segfaults. I did some research and I got the feeling that many many people have been having similar experiences with the free version, while the paid one is much more stable. YMMV. If you think you may...

Re: Imago Dei

Thanks!

Actually I didn't have any synths on this, just layers of guitar and ebow guitar. It does sound very synth-y though, doesn't it?

Imago Dei

https://alandmoore.bandcamp.com/track/imago-dei This is my first mix on my iLoud micros, and my first project since upgrading to Ardour6. I did have to put up with a lot of crashing, but overall I feel the workflow improved a bit. Lots of layered percussion in this one, and I had to balance the low ...

Re: Videos from the tracks

Those came out nice. You're inspiring me to try a bit harder with my videos. I only make them because it seems like people won't listen to a song unless there's a video.

Very nice. I might back off on the reverb a bit, but the basic sounds and performances are great.

Re: a plugin version of Kawai K1 now has linux version

Well, to be fair, I did say it was a worse implementation of a D-50. Same idea, just not as well executed. I may also be confusing it some with the SY-22's "Vector Synthesis", which was really just a fancy 4-way crossfade between sampled waveforms. The thing is, all this stuff seem pretty ...
