Re: USB based linux for live performance?

Here's what I've done so far. Following this guide I installed a debian linux base system on a hard drive partition from an already running debian install. And by using the specified file located on a burned CDROM image that I mounted during the process. http://www.debian.org/releases/stable/i386/ap...

Re: USB based linux for live performance?

I haven't really used windows since like 2002. A few more discoveries with ubuntu. I started jack before XFCE just to see how things differ. Using the 44100 sample rate that matches the soundfonts. And the difference in latency was noticeable. Pulseaudio is definitely not that way to go. Further res...

Re: USB based linux for live performance?

My experience with debian hasn't been all joy for audio needs. I generally need to recompile something. Like jack or timidity or alsa with sequencer support. And other quirks. Ubuntu has been a lot less customization out of the box. But is by no means a model of efficiency.

USB based linux for live performance?

I'm pretty versed in linux, but I am not too familiar with other distros besides debian and ubuntu. I'm looking for a USB bootable (as in limited write flash drive) version of linux. With a realtime low latency kernel and jackd for running fluidsynth. A drummer in a band I'm in has an older Roland T...

Re: jack audio

It's more than JUST jack audio. If you don't have a card with native midi (most don't these days), you have to emulate that with timidity or fliudsynth. And then and only then does rosegarden make sound on my systems. Start jack however you do. $ jackd -R -d alsa -d hw:0 Start fluidsynth however you...

How to MID to WAV

I saw in the request thread a request for this. I've done this in the past with timidity, so it can be done. It can also be done with fluidsynth. I created a short bash script for the fluidsynth way because I hate remembering complex command lines. Here's what my script does in it's ugly form. $ flu...

Re: Here's an odd request.

Record yourself a couple of times doing it. In audacity (or sox) adjust the volume, pitch, and timing offset to many variations. Do it in such a way that all samples are the same length, then mix and loop it. Most likely you'll be bringing the volume quite a ways down before mixing. And not quite th...

Re: Best budget condenser?

MXL is one of the chinese manufacturers. They seem popular so I guess they're semi-good or they wouldn't be so liked. MXL 990 and MXL v67g being two of their more popular mics. I have an AT3035 that I picked up for little more than $100 on craigslist. Not quite as good as the AT4033a I used to have,...

Re: Choosing my first notation program, playback?

I think that the main issue is that if you don't have a midi capable soundcard, you have to emulate midi with timidity or fluidsynth, which apps like rosegarden don't configure and/or launch when it launches. So basically all of your midi events are played back as silence by default. With various me...

Re: Copyrights ~ That gray area?

BITD, if you sent yourself a certified letter with the printed version of your song, that was considered your copyright. Copyright is implied to some degree by default YMMV depending on your country. copyright.gov is the US copyright registration organization, AFAIK. You don't have to register to ha...
