Re: QAmix???
I usually route everything into Ardour and mix there. Ardour's mixer is midi-controllable. But I'll have a look at QAmix later, might be usefull for lightweight setups. There's no manpage though, according to a bug report on launchpad.

Re: Anyone else having trouble with RT kernel?
Segfault during upgrade from 8.10 to 9.04. Looks like I hit a very buggy 8.10 RT kernel, should have switched to generic before upgrading. This is going to be a fun day.

Re: Anyone else having trouble with RT kernel?
I had serious problems with the RT kernel using Jaunty beta, two days prior to relase. The machine simply stopped working after a minute or so, so I had to revert to Hardy. But now my nvidia driver messed up, so I'm attempting an upgrade. Hope it goes well... otherwise I might just try 64studio agai...

Re: onboard audio + mixer trouble
Always check your cabling first. Try switching cables out, try re-routing them, perhaps your cable is picking up interference from a nearby power supply. Then check your levels. Are you applying too much gain on a very low signal? Then check the mixer with a different source. Then try plugging it in...

Re: a doubt on sample rates
Nyquist-Shannon theory. Every sound with less than half the sampling frequency (Nyquist-frequency) can be reproduced exactly. The higher sample rate only helps digital processing and makes converter filters less steep, which can help the quality. Enough, I did a whole lecture on the topic recently. ...

Re: a doubt on sample rates
Everything MUST have the same sample rate, or you'll get glitches, crackling, or weird pitch-shifting effects. If you use external digital equipment, you also need a wordclock to sync them. I'd simply set the entire sytem to 44.100Hz, which is the rate most of your samples will be in. If your hard- ...

Re: Distribution for Web Radio Station
I only needed ogg, and at 48kbit mono (streaming through a VPN) it sounds way better than mp3. And its free from licensing issues. Actually, I wish more webradios would stream in ogg, just to get it more widespread. But I guess setting up icecast shouldn't be more difficult than icecast2. Before usi...

Re: Login timeout
Gee, thanks! Yeah, I guess if I take longer than 2 hours, I'll have forgotten what I wanted to write anyway.

Re: Distribution for Web Radio Station
icecast2 worked just about out-of-the-box form me. It only does ogg though. Haven't found any decent others. I even tried to set up a helix server, but in the end stuck to icecast2.

Login timeout
Maybe its just me, but I sometimes need quite a while to write a post (answer the phone, chat with musicians, etc.), so I get logged out while typing and everything is gone. Is there a timeout on the board, and if, could you set it much higher?

Re: Distribution for Web Radio Station
Get Liquidsoap 0.9 running on your server, forget about the GUI, set it up so it plays 24/7 from a playlist, with Jingles now and again, and make an input that goes live as soon as you feed it. Into that input you feed your stream from your local studio, i.e. a media player and a microphone. Then yo...

Re: Greetings from a german recording studio
I love xjadeo, its the main reason for me to use linux for editing to video. We did the last concert video with cubase 4, and it just kept crashing when playing the dv stream.
I'll be glad to help others, and I never stop learning myself.

Greetings from a german recording studio
Hi, we're a professional recording studio (yes, we do this for a living) located just south of Berlin in Germany. Founded in 2006, we've been using Linux on our office computers and servers as well as for graphic work. Now I've at last managed to get the editing suite going, running Ubuntustudio, wh...

Re: Distribution for Web Radio Station
If you're prepared for some serious scripting, look at liquidsoap http://savonet.sourceforge.net/ for your web radio. It's hell to get set up, but extremely versatile and stable. We used it to build an instore radio system, distibuting music and ads over the net to 5 stores. On the distro side, I ha...
