Re: Less sub-foruming, pleaae

It is a very common error in community-building, especially for people organizing for the first time. Unfortunately most people start out of the first time and then the thing sticks around :) I created and organized successful (a few thousand people) and rather empty (around 10 people) communities a...

Re: [ANN] Drumrox 2.0.0

Now Drumrox simple saves the path to the drumkit, not the symlink. Do I understand this correctly, if I load a drumkit via a symlink Drumrox will resolve the link and use and save the absolute path instead? I use symlinks as file organisation layer, especially for samples, so I can move files aroun...

Re: The importance of designer presets in libre synths

To me, the problem is you don't need a synth if you only want to use presets. You need a rompler. I don't mean this in a snobby way, I think commercial decisions (the industry of selling presets) have led to some norm of combining two use cases into one piece of software. It seems crazy to me that ...

Using GTK or Qt as a plugin GUI is really problematic.
You don't have to figure this out all alone. Come into the developers IRC #lad on libera.chat

Re: Giving realtime privileges to the right processes only

Lower numbers mean higher priority.

Priority values are inverted: lower p->prio value means higher priority.

Re: Giving realtime privileges to the right processes only

Since you are on Archlinux there is not much to do for you, since you don't need to do (almost) anything by hand to have it pro-audio ready. Please have a look at this up-to-date article: https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Professional_audio You only need to read the very first chapter in 99% of the c...

Thanks for the work. DrMr was always unreliable. I hope your fork makes that better. The sad side is that I can't pronounce it "Doctor Mister" anymore :) P.S. Perfect match for (my) https://laborejo.org/patroneo/ , which is like the Hydrogen Sequencer and more (but which has no builtin sam...

Re: New free synth: Fluctus

I come before you today with a grave concern. It seems that some of our fellow humans have forgotten what the word "free" truly means. They use it to describe anything that doesn't cost money, from free beer to free kittens. Now, I'm not against free kittens, mind you. But we must not all...

It's just the usual forum trolls, which will surely confirm their role with another annoying comment about something unrelated. I think every meetup is great and I and very interested (as an organizer of such things myself) to hear about it. It's a lot of work to get likeminded people like this in i...

Re: Is Linuxsampler deprecated?

I stopped LinuxSampler when the other software you mentioned was on par because LS is not the variant of FOSS I liked. Also the server/client model didn't work well with plugins. That said, it is still the only option to load .gig files (without conversions to other format). libgig from the linux sa...

Re: What session managers do people prefer?

When running Agordejo CPU was going up to almost 50% on a quite powerful machine, while doing nothing. Saw that someone else has reported it also a while ago, but the issue tracker seems to be offline. A bug in QT nobody seems to be able to replicate enough to tell me what is going on. [Bug tracker...

Nah it could get the session dir from the server when it announces itself as patchbay, like it works with the NSM GUI.

You mean with this message?

Code: Select all

When a GUI announces itself to nsmd it will receive the absolute path to the session directory
through the message /nsm/gui/session/root

Re: Pipewire, Jack Applications & Low-Latency tuning for soundcards

It's all fine and I am not trying to get anyone to use this system or that.
But I want just to correct one piece of wording:
ALSA is always there. It is the driver. Pipewire does not replace ALSA. If you write JACK+ALSA you need to write Pipewire+ALSA. Otherwise it's just JACK or Pipewire.

Re: Pipewire, Jack Applications & Low-Latency tuning for soundcards

Pipewire ain't Jack3 or Alsa2. It's more like PulseAudio2. Absolutely. And the number of posts and questions about problems how to configure pipewire for low latency rivals that of JACK over the years. Except that Pipewire is marketed as "this will solve all these problems those anti-user-expe...
