xubuntu with KXStudio Repos

I just got a fresh bare bones install of xubuntu 14.04 loaded. I then took the code supplied here http://kxstudio.sourceforge.net/Repositories#Ubuntu . My question now, having looked at the repositories list (Other Software Tab) in Synaptic, I notice there is a lot of PPAs for Ubuntu Lucid beside Ub...

Re: [Solved] Ardour3 won't start up

Thanks sysrqer, You saved my day by the suggestion of using the terminal to track what was really going on. Somehow the config file: /home/usr/.config/ardour3/ardour.rc was corrupt and unable to be read. I then went to the software center, removed ardour3, then went to the file system and removed th...

Re: Ardour3 won't start up

Phase next!!
I tried to run ardour3 using the boot disk rather than using the loaded KXStudio OS on a HDD. That works, and I could run and record with ardour 3 through that method.

Makes no sense to me!!

[Solved] Ardour3 won't start up

Hi folks, I just did a fresh install of KXStudio 14.04b 64 bit, which worked fine. I am trying to run ardour3 for recording through a Scarlett 18i20 interface. This stuff all works if booted to UbuntuStudio 12.04, (on a different HDD) but there seems a problem. Ardour 3 fails to open. My process: 1....

Re: System file storage for soundfont files

Thanks Pablo, I am now one step farther along. I think Ardour is vary unstable as it crashes a lot while trying to write midi from the piano roll input. It seems to sort of work other than the crashing though. I have gotten the soundfonts working now at least. Again, thanks to all who help with my i...

Re: System file storage for soundfont files

First of all, thanks for taking the time to look at these issues for me. I find it all difficult but... I have spent many hours today attempting to get the soundfont files to interact with the midi piano roll function in Ardour. I have had minimal luck thus far. I went through the tutorial suggested...

Re: System file storage for soundfont files

Thanks for the clarification about this stuff. I am sorry I've been slow at getting back. This road of linux DAW is difficult due to mostly to the use of language (spoken and written) or so I think. I only understand about a quarter of what is said here. Being dyslexic has many drawbacks, it is a fi...

Re: System file storage for soundfont files

So I am back to this today. I can't seem to get the soundfonts downloaded from http://www.bandshed.net/sounds/ to work with ZynAddSubFX. I guess that synth doesn't use the file type I downloaded (type .sfz). It is either that or I totally don't understand a thing about what I am attempting to do. I ...

Re: Hi from Surrey UK

I have run into the grub issue in the past. Make a live.iso CD-R disk of boot repair file you found. Use the same method you used to create the live ubuntu12.04.3.iso disk. Then boot to it to fix your grub issue. It is a simple program to run. That will get your grub issue fixed. Save that disk for ...

Re: Focusrite Scarlett 18i20 Help (please)

Hi, I got a scarlett 18i20 last month also. It works for me. It took two things for me to get it working. I had to realize that the unit had to be turned on before opening Jack. I also had to adjust the jack setting from the stock PC sound card to the correct input and output device. It sounds as th...

Re: System file storage for soundfont files

Carla didn't load when I installed KXStudio, ??? I don't know why, nor does it matter. I have it now. I wonder why the package manager installed wine along with Carla, that doesn't really matter either. It may invite my trying out reaper sometime! For now I am having enough of a time learning to use...

Re: System file storage for soundfont files

Varpa, Thanks so much for the assist here on this topic. It shall take me a while to gain the fundamentals of this build your self style of a DAW. The language with all its acronyms (which are meaningless ie, your use of SSD which to me means Social Security Disability) is very hard to deal with. Ye...
