Re: chord showcasing swiss-knife songs?
Any body with other suggestions, in major and/or minor then? The progression, so called, can also include few if necessary repetitions i.e. be a series of somehow fitting smaller progressions so long as all the chords get 'cycled' as it were. Still got the blues is pretty much Autumn leaves with di...

Re: Desktop, towers, racks, remote controlled by VNC, extension cable to interface
I guess my question to netjack would be if you have a computer quiet enough to run the audio interface and netjack in the room with you then why not just record directly on that computer? Sure, that makes most sense. If I'm keeping my steampunk noisemaker going or get another that's also a huge fan...

Re: Desktop, towers, racks, remote controlled by VNC, extension cable to interface
It would be better if you could send everything over a network cable. VNC doesn't send audio over the network. For VNC software I have found tigervnc is good. It's a different world from having e.g. a KVM switch with tons of wires everywhere. Using VNC without audio the remote machine only needs a ...

Re: What DAW should I use in 2021?
You might be able to get this nigh-forgotten gem to run in wine. https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/e/e7/Sound_Recorder_in_Windows_98.png/220px-Sound_Recorder_in_Windows_98.png If wine's not working and you need say 8 tracks then use proxmox to host 8 Windows VMs each running one Sound...

Re: Desktop, towers, racks, remote controlled by VNC, extension cable to interface
I just bought a Crucial MX500 1TB to replace an ageing HD in my office computer..... thanks for the specs and rundown. Embedded mobos and fanless all new to me. TB SSDs not an issue yet, can live with HDDs a few more years so it seems. Maybe not if I start actually making some music :) Another cons...

Re: New old laptop, interface with 8-12 inputs, (saffire) firewire perhaps
The FW bus power details seems to check out. Many reports on bus powered interfaces and disks, mostly from desktop users or mains powered laptop users, typically using one device. So at least the 2nd and 3rd device needs its own 12v supply. A new detour direction appeared in the meantime after think...

Re: Desktop, towers, racks, remote controlled by VNC, extension cable to interface
Yes it depends on how far you need to go. USB is not designed for long cable runs but you can certainly run it through a wall from one room to the next. Balanced snake 150 feet is still fine. Silent computer is still my favourite. Fan less mobos have respectable speed quad core now. TB SSDs are aff...

Re: Why I can't get away from Windows (for now)
Because of missing Win 10 drivers someone just gave me a M-audio 1814, another one is selling a 410 for 5€. same Win 7 only drivers story for the Focusrite Liquid Mix btw, DSP emulated hardware processing on external firewire device, seen for 50€ used today only the tech savvy users can get it work...

Re: Why I can't get away from Windows (for now)
Focusrite and Presonus (and probably others) have made very well-designed software mixers to route anything in and out of these boxes, save presets, adjust clock sync, etc. That controller software will probably not be Wine-able. Yes this is true sadly, I had a Presonus VSL1818 for a few years that...

Re: New old laptop, interface with 8-12 inputs, (saffire) firewire perhaps
A kind soul ran out of fire and just gave me a https://www.soundonsound.com/reviews/m- ... ewire-1814 And you want to use that with a laptop? Years ago I helped my friend set up a ... eh ... Windows laptop with a Firewire interface. At first it didn't work and this was due to the Cardbus Firewire a...

Re: Why I can't get away from Windows (for now)
...Not directly related to this topic just an open and honest view from the other side.. Interesting full disclosure pragmatism from a hardened distrobaker :) Another OS side-note: I'm hunting old firewire interfaces with ADAT in/out or FW extra host ports for daisy chains. So a smaller external in...
