PulseAudio
PulseAudio, which is standard in Hardy, will hopefully make sound stuff not so crazy on linux. I barely have pure-ALSA stable. Once I do, I might be brave enough to try to upgrade Gusty to PulseAudio.

I've done a couple of charts for a jazz quintet using lilypond. The process is: 1. edit the file 2. run a shell command to render lily code to pdf and then load in pdf viewer 3. edit the file more to fix weird sh*t you noticed in the pdf viewer. When I'm home at my linux box, I can post the exact co...

Lilypond front ends: Denemo, NoteEdit, Carous and Rosegarden
I've done whole charts by writing Lilypond code with Emacs. I'm hoping to find a faster way. AFAICT Lilypond is the best engraver. Are there others that match up? Denemo: Not very actively developed. Brief intro: I play saxophone and am interested in arranging for small groups. Also interested in creating practice tracks and engraving music. I run Ubuntu Gutsy on an IBM Th...

Rosegarden vs Ardour
Links: http://ardour.org/ http://www.rosegardenmusic.com/ I've started learning Rosegarden but have recently noticed that Ardour might be more actively under development (a new release just came out). Perhaps this thread could be a place to talk about how the two match up. My goals with these applic...

I've been using Audacity for about 2 years and love it. One of my main uses is for transcription. I use the Change Tempo Without Changing the pitch effect a lot. I've discovered that you get better results if you convert your stero recording to mono before slowing it down. Question: This weekend I w...
