Re: What I need for recording from microphone?
rodiongork, you can look at this recent topic or here for some suggestions about a USB audio interface. For the mic, if you have no idea, I'd suggest a Shure SM57 or SM58. They are quite cheap, almost indestructible and quite well suited for a wide range of applications, most notably vocals (yes the...

Re: Record What you Hear in Linux (stereo mix)
I wanted to have the ability to record any audio from websites at the same time we are talking; so we all could comment on it as it goes. I also wanted to just have the ability to add a soundboard, so I can play and record stupid noises as we are speaking as well. Just route them to Ardour (you may...

Re: Realistic sounding pitch shifted vocals
Not to dismiss everybody's good and appreciated advices, but by the time you test the software options, select the right one for you and learn how to make it fit in your work flow, you could just have invested that time in rehearsing your vocal part and improving your singing skills, which is for su...

Re: USB2 Hardware on newer computers
Is there a way to disable USB3 only on one specific port? No, not to my knowledge, anyway. The BIOS setting is one for all. I tried with unloading/reloading the kernel modules but it didn't work: if I enable USB3 in the BIOS, then the USB2 kernel module can't see the hardware. I didn't spend much t...

Re: Record What you Hear in Linux (stereo mix)
With Jack, you can route the audio from one application to another as you see fit. No need to do it with physical audio cables (it would be very stupid). Just route all the audio you want to record to Ardour or whatever. Instead of Ardour, you could use timemachine , for example, or jack_capture , t...

I have a Lenovo Thinkpad T440s and I had to disable USB3 from the BIOS.

Re: Linear phase EQ
Be aware that linear phase can smear transients.
For anyone interested, there's a nice video comparing linear phase and minimal phase eq-ing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=efKabAQQsPQ.

You can use Qjackctl's "Patchbay" to automatically manage the connections, or aj-snapshot or whatever session manager you prefer.

Re: Lexicon Omega doesn't work
The blue "USB" LED will blink when the Omega is disconnected from the USB and stay on when it's connected. The "USB Assign" buttons are used to assign the corresponding pair of inputs to a pair of USB channels. That is, the Omega has 3 input pairs: "Mic 1-2", "Line...

The clickpad is not the most ergonomic thing I ever used Use the trackpointer. I really miss mine when I'm using my macbook at work. Yes, the trackpointer is actually quite good and I use it sometimes, especially for drag and drop. Reading other comments, though, it seems that it too was easier to ...

Re: Tips for new laptop
Another Thinkpad user here: T440s with SSD drive. The clickpad is not the most ergonomic thing I ever used, but I'm quite happy for the rest. It has an antiglare screen, a must for me (and others, I see), which ruled out most of the competitors. The only caveat is that I have to disable USB3 from th...

Re: Nothing like a tube amp, I would say
Nice, but is this relevant? From what I see, it's a cabinet emulator, not an amp emulator.GMaq wrote:A non-obvious solution: http://axetrak.com/
IMO cabinet impulse responses are already quite good for this task and don't cost half a leg (assuming a leg is about 1000$ ).

Re: Advice on buying an USB audio interface
At last I remembered to check: yes, I can start jack either at 48kHz or 44.1kHz, both work. I'm on Linux kernel 3.18, if this is relevant.luispa wrote:Are you able to switch between 48khz and 44khz? English Guy posted he's unable to switch to 44khz.
