Re: Linux status with Thunderbolt

Linux supports Thunderbolt, but AFAIK no one has written a Linux driver for a Thunderbolt audio interface yet. Unlike USB, there is no standard for Thunderbolt audio devices, so each device would need its own driver.

Re: RME Babyface Pro USB audio interface

Someone has finally reverse engineered how the Babyface Pro communicates with TotalMix FX on an iPad to add Linux support for direct monitor signal routing on Linux. It has been merged upstream for Linux 5.8: https://github.com/MrBollie/RME-Babyace-Pro-ALSA-Mixer-Patch A GUI application is here: htt...

Re: Focusrite Scarlett Gen 3 4i4 (and others)

Great news! I suggest trying to contact Focusrite if you have not already. They may be willing to provide you with hardware, especially considering your track record of success with the second generation devices.

Re: SCARLETT 3RD GEN just announced

:( It looks like the Scarlett 4i4 does not have direct monitoring controls on the hardware. I guess I'll recommend Linux users avoid this new generation of Scarletts then. There are still plenty of 1st and 2nd generation devices out there and probably will be for years.

Re: Ultralite AVB

I am pretty sure this device is extremely sensitive to interruptions in the USB stream. FWIW, I used mine with a DJTechTools Chroma Cable with a ferrite bead on each end. That did not make a difference. When I had my Ultralite AVB, sometimes it would go a few weeks without crackling and sometimes i...

Re: Ultralite AVB

After the update it doesn't crack as often when starting or stopping something! That's nice for home/studio use, but any chance of crackling makes the device unsuitable for performance. Have you compared the Babyface Pro with the non-Pro Babyface by accident? I think my non-Pro Babyface is a little...

Re: Ultralite AVB

Well, that's anticlimactic. :/ I've gotten much better speakers since before (Genelec 8030As) and just tried the Ultralite AVB for the first time with them. I can clearly hear now that the RME Babyface Pro sounds better, so I'll likely sell my Ultralite AVB. Too bad I already broke the screen carryi...

Re: Ultralite AVB

Has any of you manged to get a decent performance with jack2? I keep on having xruns all over the place, regardless what I do. With Jack1 however, the performance is solid and I can 0 xruns with buffer sizes down to 64. I would have moved back to jack1 but sadly Bitwig only supports jack2 and now I...

Re: Ultralite AVB

The crackling happens sometimes when there is an XRUN, but most XRUNs do not start the crackling.

Re: Ultralite AVB

FWIW MOTU support said they're looking into the issue with their developers. In the meantime I have set up QJackCtl to start jltcgen automatically after I start JACK. Fortunately the Ultralite AVB automatically synchronizes to the LTC clock when it is set up on the same channel without having to go ...

Re: Ultralite AVB

I just found this: http://www.motunation.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=63375&start=15#p548304 Seems like MOTU knows about it and it's a "chipsets problem". I'll try with a second machine and report if it doesn't do strange things. That thread seems to be discussing a different pr...

Re: Ultralite AVB

Btw, may I ask if you already performed with this and what horrors came upon you if so? I've only performed with it twice. One of those this crackling happened. I thought it was an issue with a loose analog cable or something. After it kept happening at home I realized it was a problem with the Ult...
