Re: USB Soundcard For Linux?

You did not state your budget. I definitely have a small one and am very happy with my Alesis io2 which works out of the box on my Debian system (& also the *buntus) 48khz 24 bit recording 2 in 2 out, phantom power. each input also has an insert. If you have to have the input level high it does ...

Re: Love Linux, hate getting it to work with audio!

You should be able to create your files directly in VLC without needing Ardour. Go to ==> media ==> convert/save Choose the network tab and enter your url Click convert/save down at the bottom Choose a file name and a file format from the drop down menu (& select display the output if you want t...

Re: Please endorse dyne:bolic for EU funding (CHEST)

I loved dynebolic II & in its day it had a really great community & in poorer days allowed me to make music on a PIII. It is not so well known now but it was a widely used and respected distro in its time and ahead of its time in being a nomadic system. Jaromil is a really talented developer...

Re: Is there a KXStudio Debian ISO?

If you wan to roll your own. Try installing the repos on Refracta Linux, which is Debian stable based and has great remastering tools built in.

http://www.ibiblio.org/refracta/

I have used Refracta to build a couple of live Cd's straight off a live disc, but not actually with KX-studio.

Re: I'm new to linux/digital music

On a lot of Linux distros you will get no sound from Audacity if you are running jack. Jack is best used with Muse or Ardour that are built to use its capabilities. Audacity is a good place to start, but you cannot use effects in real time on it (e.g. adjust reverb & listen to the effect while i...

Re: I'm new to linux/digital music

Hi Andrew. I made the transition from tape to digital a few years ago. It is just incredible that we can have what used to cost large amounts of money for virtually free. Fortunately a lot of the computer stuff is modelled on the old physical stuff we used to use, that gives you an edge over a newbi...

Re: Muse crashes (seg fault) on debian wheezy

Solved. There was a muse directory in ~/.config. Deleted that & all was well. Versions of muse must not play nicely with each other. I will mark this as solved in case someone has the same issue. Perhaps a mod wants to move this elsewhere in the forum?

Re: Muse crashes (seg fault) on debian wheezy

Sorry, my bad. Though the problem is not the muse package, as if I install it on a live system there is no problem. I suspect either something conflicting has been pulled in or there is an old residual config I cannot find. The search goes on .....

Muse crashes (seg fault) on debian wheezy [SOLVED]

Hi I have just installed the muse repos for Debian wheezy (the main one & backports). However, when I try and start muse sequencer it crashes. I did do a complete removal and deleted the muse folder in my home directory and re installed but to no avail. I did previously have a version from git i...

Re: Slackjack Studio. A Slackware 14 based JACK Studio dist

Very interesting. I used Slackware for a long time but bailed out when getting multimedia working became too long winded. Are the audio packages going to be available separately as well? Since the demise of audioslack they can be very hard to get hold of.
