Just wanted to share the news, which I didn't see here yet!
I haven't got it yet, hoping it shows up in Software Manager in Mint ASAP. As a teacher, I'm excited for the continual improvement of the flagship FLOSS entry-level audio app, especially cross-platform…

[SOLVED] hardware to work with JACK when it works in ALSA
So, I purchased a couple cheapo off-brand USB guitar interfaces (the ones that are $15 each). Plugged them in with no prep, nothing shows up in JACK / Catia etc., but I tried Audacity and switched to ALSA mode and *BOOM* — perfect. Decent, clean sound, little noise, just great. Now I just need to ge...

Re: Playitslowly? other options?
i2, my understanding is that Ardour uses the Rubber Band Library. That library is superb, and that's what Stretch Player (and I think Sonic Visualiser) use as well. Audacity and all other programs ought to be updated to use the Rubber Band Library too Ardour certainly sounds great (thanks to the Rub...

Re: Playitslowly? other options?
Thanks, I don't know why I didn't try the Software Center, thanks. Ok, so here's the deal: Play it slowly is nice that it can handle MP3 files, but it is really mediocre quality (although I think Audacity is similar) Stretch Player is much better because it uses the superb Rubber Band library, but i...

Re: Playitslowly? other options?
raboof, thanks for the suggestion.
Dave, I'm happy with Audacity for what it is, but it doesn't have the sound-quality of Sonic Visualiser or others for time stretching and doesn't work on the fly non-destructively. I mentioned it in my initial post, so I know about it and use it…

Playitslowly? other options?
So I just found out about this: http://29a.ch/playitslowly/ And it looks interesting. As someone who has basically installed only full-release software through repositories, I'm wondering what the issues are with just loose packages like this? Also, is this the best free app for this function? I kno...

Re: Adjusting pitch-bend range in QSynth and others
Thanks, I'll try those. While I'm happy about Yoshimi's microtonal options, they just retune the given 12-notes so you can get alternate scale tunings, but are still limited to 12-notes, which is inadequate for much just intonation or much flexibility. Oh, and to be clear: I'm not especially interes...

How to use laptop's built-in mic input?
So I tried some old generic mic that had a 1/4" plug, used an adapter to plug into the laptop's built-in miniphone mic input... All I know is Audacity worked with the laptop's built-in mic, but when I plugged into the jack, the input signal went dead — it knew there was a change obviously, but ...

Thanks, I'll check that out. I the mean time, if anyone cares to share any further recommendations about any instrument options that would meet these requirements, please let me know!

Adjusting pitch-bend range in QSynth and others
So, I need to be able to get instruments working with only a semitone (+/-) pitch bend range to work with my microtonal keyboard from H-Pi. Pianoteq is the only option I've got fully working. To be fully compatible I need two features: 1. adjustable PB range 2. multi-channel input where each channel...

Re: Getting MIDI through WINE for windows programs
Thanks, but I know about other pitch-correction software. Melodyne is far more than that. Melodyne is super-advanced pitch and timing adjustment and more. It can control amount of vibrato, specific note-by-note timing and stretching, precise pitch, note-by-note formants, and more with a very effecti...

Re: Getting MIDI through WINE for windows programs
Thanks, this is all new to me... So I want the "rt" thing, though, don't I? I installed KXStudio, so I have that, no? And installing Wine 1.4 I might lose it? or have to reset it? Or is it that I might not want it?

Re: Getting MIDI through WINE for windows programs
On a side note, Open Octave sounds absolutely amazing. I am MOST excited about contributing to things when I know they will be available to everyone. I'm considering donating... I'd definitely like to try it out, I'm installing that repository. I am really impressed and pleased with the support and ...

Re: Getting MIDI through WINE for windows programs
Thanks for the encouragement. I'm indeed thrilled with the tools that exist on Linux! As a teacher, I am wholeheartedly encouraging my students to consider Linux. I even updated my website to recommend Linux, and specifically your KXStudio solution! But I need to access Melodyne and to access this s...
