Your favorite looper, and how do you use it?

What's your favorite Linux app for working with live or even non-live loops? Do you use it for constructing just part of your composition/performance, or are you a totally loops-based musicians? If so, do you create your own samples to loop, or do you find free ones on the web, or do you buy loop li...

Re: LMMS - The Guide

As much fun as compiling wireless drivers from source is, I'll probably just wait 'till 64 has the support built-in ;). I'm really interested in Linux Sampler, but I can wait for bit...at this point I don't need it professionally or anything. But back to LMMS...I see it has VST support, so I'm going...

Re: LMMS - The Guide

Yes, I'm excited about what Open Octave is doing, but my understanding was they don't yet have totally stable release yet.

Thanks for the tip on 64 studio. I have it installed on my machine but I doesn't recognize my wireless card, so it's pretty much a no go.

Re: LMMS - The Guide

Hi mazza558! Good to have you on the forum...thanks so much for sharing your knowledge and offering to help! I'm interested in making some realistic-sounding orchestral recordings from midi data...can I do this with LMMS? I'm not sure how it works (if it even does) with apps like Linux-sampler and *...

Re: free piano tutorials

I agree...you know, it's great to get people playing songs they know; it keeps them interested. But if you don't accompany that with solid instruction on technique and theory, you're really doing them a disservice as a teacher IMHO.

Re: Open Octave

As composer, I'm really excited about the direction this project is taking. This something that is very much needed on Linux platform, and I'm really looking forward to the KDE4 version of Open Octave. Will definitely be keeping my eye on this project!!

Re: MIDI out on musescore 0.9.5

Wish I could help, but I don't usually use MIDI out on MuseScore...depending on what you're doing, you might be able to make do w/Rosegarden or NoteEdit.

Re: Mscore

Just updated to the 0.9.5 MuseScore release, and it's really fantastic. It's not bug-free yet, and there are still a few rough edges, but it is more than usable. I think in another year, it will be a genuine competitor for Sibelius/Finale...I'm a grad student in music theory, and I plan on composing...

Re: Ubuntu Studio Vs. 64 Studio

Thanks for that article, StudioDave! I had Ubuntu Studio on my machine a couple releases back, and I had the same issues, and had to do a lot of tweaking to get things really usable. I've also run into that installer bug (it's on the LiveCD too) in stock Ubuntu (FWIW, I had to do an "alternate&...

Re: Ubuntu Studio Vs. 64 Studio

Thats just my 2 cents worth of 64 studio experience for 2 years. :) Hope your trials prove fruitful nathan. Thanks! This seems like really good advice...I hadn't even thought of using two distros!I may keep Ubuntu as my "desktop" and throw 64 Studio 3.0 on there as my "studio" d...

Ubuntu Studio Vs. 64 Studio

So, I am currently running Ubuntu Jaunty, which I love...except that getting a real-time kernel up and running a bit problematic...installed via synaptic, tried to boot up, and I can't get an X server run. I made sure I had the corresponding driver, etc, going, but it's just annoying. So I'm thinkin...
