Re: From the starlight (dark synth impro/soundtrack)

Yes, I can also hear Neverending Story in this. I really like the expressive lead synth.

I can definitely relate to the subject of this song. I also struggle with personal weaknesses, especially social anxiety (which at its heart is a special case of the fear of failure). But having a higher power to lean on makes a world of difference. Thanks for sharing your creation!

Re: Water Colour Sky (downtempo, abstract electro)

I REALLY like this piece. It has a great feel and texture. The sound choice is excellent. The slow melody played by the flute keeps reminding me of a phrase near the beginning of Copeland's Appalachian Spring. Thanks for sharing this. You deserve all of the positive feedback you're getting in this t...

Re: First Bandcamp Album

I listened to this while I was out driving with my wife, and she didn't complain about it! That is actually a high compliment coming from her. :) When it comes to music, she is a little hard to please.

I enjoyed the album. It is full of nice ambient textures, very soothing.

Re: Sunrise at the mountain lake

That was a heroic effort to get the sound you wanted, but it was worth it. I think it sounds more like a trumpet than a French horn. But it is very expressive. I think back to songs I worked on years ago and marvel at how I struggled to do things the hard way. I spent weeks on a song about 20 years ...

Re: USB soundcard: is a decent one available and useful?

Yes. The Behrinher becomes your sound card. You plug your inputs, headphones, and monitors into it and don't bother with your built-in soundcard while using the USB sound card. Here's a little ditty I wrote about my Focusrite device when I had figured out the answers to your questions by brute force...

Re: Frankly, who cares? (rock/disco, all FOSS, Ardour 6)

This is an interesting piece. The dark and rather cynical lyrics juxtapose ironically with the bouncy and relatively upbeat music. It's a great trick in pop music, put to good use by The Smiths, especially, but also others. Your track reminds me of Stephen Merritt's music, particlarly this brilliant...

Nice track. It has a chill vibe, and those eastern scales fit beautifully over that dub tapestry.

Re: Tenaba - Firelight (feat. Eleanor Forte)

That's prety good for your first time recording fingerstyle guitar. I love that finger-plucked sound. I notice there is quite a long section where the vocal and guitar melodies play in unison. Than can be a good effect for a few bars, but methinks you overdid it here. (At least for my taste, but whr...

Re: USB soundcard: is a decent one available and useful?

Yes, that Behringer model is a particularly good choice for an entry level Linux audio interface. I have a similar model made by Focusrite, and buying that thing changed my life forever. In a good way.

I would be interested in participating in this, at least here and there. I've got too much on my plate to commit to being heavily involved, though. But I'm tempted.

You probably want to move this question to the hardware subforum. Please tell us what software you are trying to use, and we will be able to guide you through it. Are you in Audacity? Ardour? Zoom?

Re: Electronic drum kit

Finally got back to this, although you may have already moved on. But I'll document here for anyone else who has the same question. I went over to the neighbor's house after work today and plugged his set into my laptop (Linux Mint 20). The kit is a Yamaha DTX series. The hardware controller on the ...

That was fun to put some faces to names and to hear some actual voices from across the pond. I will definitely check in on future meetings, outdoor recreation schedule permitting. :)
