The easiest way (someone would say "the proper way" :) ) is to type

Code: Select all

uname -a
in terminal. If you have PREEMPT in the output ,your kernel is what people called "Low-Latency" .

Re: Debian based KXStudio ISO

Hi falkTX, If you are looking for proper Desktop Environment to replace Plasma 5, i suggest LXQT. Its still QT based, like KXStudio core software, but this time its lightweight and i think that this will bring additional fans to the distro. About considering Tanglu instead of raw Debian, this is pot...

Re: Make Firefox Use ALSA Loopback

Hi GraysonPeddie Here is a good article that allows you to unleash the full potential of HTML5 video in firefox (38 or later). Can't say that it will solve your problem on 100% but at least you can watch Youtube live streams without the flash malware ;) http://www.linuxveda.com/2015/04/02/enable-mse...

Re: Why people don't like Unity and Ubuntu?

There is no rational explanation, backing up the Ubuntu-Unity hatred. Its all FUD, and hipster attitude. Ubuntu is stable, reliable and user friendly. One of the best open source projects in existence. Ubuntu can be used successfully for a professional audio, with a few tweaks, that are accessible b...

Re: Installing on new SSD (no Swap?)

I agree that Arch Wiki aims to educate, rather to encourage mindless copy-paste method. The wiki is much more relevant if you are using Debian, newer than oldstable, because nowadays Debian default on systemd as well. As for the discard option for the swap partition, it also is a relatively new opti...

Re: best way to upgrade from ubuntu studio to kxstudio

There are two equally relevant and useful ways to "upgrade" from Ubuntu Studio to KXStudio, and i mean that any approach has its potential advantages and disadvantages. But it basically leads to a point to choose to use Pulseaudio or not. 1. Install the KXStudio repos according to the KXSt...

Re: Installing on new SSD (no Swap?)

Sure you can use a linux OS without SSD, with (almost) no issues. But also you can add the 'discard' option to swap partitions, which looks like a pretty reasonable workaround. You can add it in /etc/fstab or manually swapon --discard /dev/sdX As if you look for more up-to-date SSD on Linux manual, ...

How about the name of the Qt front-end for the JACK low-latency audio server? I think that any linux-musician knows that. Or it can be something from JACK settings, like the default frames/period...

Re: Lots of xruns with Reaper in wine-rt, unlike before

I remember having similar problem like 5-6 years ago. It turns out that specific Linux kernel was causing the issue (it was linux-2.6.31-rt), the kernel although very stable and usable was not wine-friendly. So my advise is to try experimenting with several different versions of Linux. After that, c...

Re: Good Article: How to defrag a Linux system.

e4defrag can be useful for highly loaded Linux servers that use ext4 file system. I don't think that should be a concern for the desktop users, even those on Debian or Ubuntu LTS that doesn't reinstall for years. Note however that ext3 doesn't need defragmentation tools, because while ext4 allows so...

Re: Call for Testing: KXStudio 14.04.1 ISOs

@unfa I just re-install KXStudio (KXStudio_14.04.1g_64bit), My motherboard is UEFI too. Both normal and secure boot installations were successful. I used automatic partitioning on a SSD drive after i flush the drive and made a fresh GPT partition table. PS: Generally the package responsible for (v)f...
