Re: Private courses in electronic music
I really don't have much knowledge about this, but I second what spm_gl said. At least basic routing should be explained first. The complex routing stuff can be incorporated in the other segments, I think, since it's really all about practical application.

How to make the life of Linux audio newbies easier
Since I recently read a little bit about making the life easier for someone not familiar with specific complex tasks, in particular Paul Davis' "Reflections on 'Intuitive'" , the very good FLOSS manual for ardour and this thread , I thought about easy ways to make life easier for a Linux a...

Re: Recording with Yamaha DTX Explorer
Hey guys, Im relatively new to Ubuntu studio and i've installed the latest version. I have done some work previously with pro tools and BFD drums. I was planning on using Ardour & what equivalent product would i be looking at to do the drum tracks, i was planning on running midi output from Yam...

Re: Which card under 100$? (basic usage)
Hi oobs,
I don't use an internal card, but an USB card, the Behringer UCA222. It's plug & play with Linux, is inexpensive (I paid 30 €) and should be absolutely sufficient for what you want to do.

Re: 'Karma (music theory) Police'...
I have mixed feelings about music theory. I learned to play sheet music and learned also about music theory. But, and this is a big "but", I don't like it to interfere with the music I am writing. Music for me is about feeling and moods, and I can't put that on paper. I am sure, everyone h...

Re: The Halo Blue - Album
The number of "voices" (i.e. discrete channels) is limited by hardware in PT HD, PT LE has an artificial track limit, 56 I think. Oh, and the choice of interfaces is very limited. The only really great thing about ProTools HD is the guaranteed low latency of a few samples. But a well-tune...

Re: Private courses in electronic music
That sounds good. Make videos! I have two suggestions: #1: The music theory part (2.3) doesn't seem to fit where it is. I would do this as the first topic in the first section (1.1) or as the first topic in the second section (2.1), as it is the compsition which everyone would be working on before r...

Re: The Halo Blue - Album
Matt, I just listened to the songs that you put on Youtube, and I really like "The Donce". It has a very cool New Wave feeling and sound to it. I don't know if you know the BBC series "Ashes to Ashes", I think this would fit perfectly well as a soundtrack for it. Do you have more...

Re: The Halo Blue - Album
I find that once you take ProTools out of a flashy studio environment, with a Control24 and all, it starts to get really ugly. And the moment you hit the track limit, you curse your lungs out. Not to mention trying to do a video sync and discovering you need to spend more $$$ for some stupid digide...

Re: Did you ever create a nasty audio feedback loop?
As mixtape said: a rite of passage. You cannot be a true JACK routing Jedi without having created feedback loops. The force is strong in us, but we must not harm equipment deliberately. I once ruined my headphones with wrong routing and turning the volume up too loud. Bear my accident in mind, young...

Re: Sound quality puzzle/problem
Well, that is strange. How does it sound when you record it in another app, like Audacity? Maybe we can narrow it down if it is system or program related.

Re: Sound quality puzzle/problem
So the first signal chain is the one that sounds muddy, if I understand that correctly? If that is correct, then I would think that the Revalver is simply the better sounding amp simulation. Two different amp sims, two different sounds, it's as easy as that. Have you ever tried to record the Amplug ...

Porcupine Tree - Time flies
Brilliant band, even more brilliant song. Their latest album "The Incident" is one of the best pieces of music I have heard in the last twenty years.

Re: Do you listen to your own music?
Unlike ScaryHallo and AutoStatic I really enjoyed every recording we had as a band. Even during the time of my Abitur tests (Abitur = german equivalent of the highschool diploma, I guess), where I should have been learning, it was one of the most fun times I had. Ever.

Re: Do you listen to your own music?
chippy and static, you took the words right out of my mouth. I had the problem of not enjoying what I recorded because I focused on the technical details and minor mistakes (which noone else seems to hear). And I started to hear all music analytically. I really had to work on enjoying music again. I...
