Re: Realistic acoustic drums?
These modules that you're talking about, do you mean the electronical drum kits? yes, i mean the modules from electronic drumkits. i mentioned two i own — yamaha DTXPress III and yamaha DTX 2.0. bought the latter as backup, but extensively using it in my portable setup with Korg PadKontrol as input...

Re: Realistic acoustic drums?
yes, they are good (otherwise why would anyone need 'em?)
but the sound of hardware module is just better, as for my ear. especially cymbals/hats, and especially if we talk about plain sound without extra processing.

Re: Realistic acoustic drums?
i am a drummer too and have tried every single sampled drumkit ever mentioned on this forum. nothing even comes close to the sound of my venerable hardware e-drums module (Yamaha DTXPress III). so, my answer is: used modules like DTXPress III or DTX 2.0 are really cheap nowadays, and MIDI input is t...

not quite just with any synth, but with any synth with feature set suitable for One Synth Challengetavasti wrote:When listening one synth challenge, sounds like with any synth you can make great tracks.

Re: Best synths?
browsing tons of patches is worth it — to recreate the ones you liked on your favorite synth(s)
actually, it becomes inevitable, when you want to reduce the number of synths in use to a few.
btw, recreating patches from one synth on another is a great learning practice by itself.

Re: Best synths?
it depends. but the vast majority of them are subtractive machines. if you learn one subtractive synth well, you know them all.tavasti wrote:Instead of one synth, it is more like ~40 different synths packed in one program. In terms of learning time and getting desired sound, maybe not best option?

i love GNU philosophy, when it's not too radical.

Re: Best synths?
phasex is very nice synth, one of, say, 5 my favorites. not pure subtractive or FM or wavetable, but hybrid. and how could happen no one mentioned bristol ? this is the very first softsynth on linux that i massively used. a bit quirky to use, but has very nice emulations of old classic machines from...

Re: Best synths?
DX7/dexed have much smarter envelope generators than ADSR commonly used in subtractive synths.tavasti wrote:Creating sounds which sound change their character during one note would be that case.
(luckily, it's not difficult to build subtractive synth patches with DX7-style EGs for Axoloti )

Re: Harrison Mixbus 32C v5 released
Last time they released Mixbus first, and 32C was 2 months later. So most likely we have to wait still few weeks. no problem, i'm out of money for a month anyway    Is there a changelog? not a real changelog, but better than nothing: http://mixbus.harrisonconsoles.com/for...

Re: Best synths?
FM synthesis is not that easy, it's OK. if one wants to learn it, i highly recommend these videos (btw, using Dexed): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EPADttG4GK0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2_wNjPLDWgE https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VFmCP54OB_k and of course the classic book of John Chowning (t...

Re: Best synths?
returning to synths. it's strange that no one mentioned discontinued second hand synths as an affordable option. so, i'll start, because right now i'm choosing between second hand Roland SH-32 and second hand Waldorf Blofeld . well, Blofeld is not discontinued, but anyway. another discontinued affor...

Re: Best synths?
regarding sequencers. my favorite two of them are sequencer64 (FOSS) and b-step (proprietary, $49, native linux versions available for x86, x86_64 and ARM). hardware sequencer units with similar feature set are REALLY expensive. and being expensive, they still can do less tracks than their software ...

Re: Best synths?
as for me, there are 2 main differences. one difference is the sound. well… first, coming out: i am not a synth kind of musician. i am the drummer. it was preambule, and here is the story: drum module. for drum sounds, i mainly use old trusted Yamaha DTXPress III module from my e-drumset — either wi...
