Re: Problems with Samplers
I tried using "linuxsampler" (without quotes) in the terminal but it gives me a "command not found." I'll try the DSSI apps and see if I have any luck. Can only some samplers open giga files? I've been using QSynth for sf2 files (works nicely), but I haven't tried giga or wav fil...

Problems with Samplers (SOLVED)
For some reason, I have had no luck at all with the Samplers in KX yet.
When I open Qsampler, it says that it failed to connect to the server. (yes, Jack is already on)
When I open Specimen, I can never get a giga or .wav file to open.
Any ideas anyone?

Re: System "almost" perfect!
So far so good... the other" sound card (the one included with the Behringer UMX490) is performing flawlessly. So it was either the M-Audio PRE sound card, or the audio cables or USB cable going in and out of it, that were probably causing the problem. I may buy new cables and see what happens....

Re: Compiling apps in KXStudio
Hi guys, thanks for the feedback. All in all, I think you are right, falkTX. Most of the stuff I'll ever need is probably already in KXStudio. Apart from the many VST instruments, which I'm trying one-by-one, to see which ones behave well.. But as far as the Linux side of things, I guess compiling i...

You don't have FLTK (and/or fltk-dev) installed. Be sure to read the README and INSTALL files, if any exist. They're not really optional if you're building software. You might want to read this too : http://www.linuxjournal.com/content/building-linux-audio-applications-101-users-guide-part-1 Best, ...

As I have a second audio card, I'm now trying it, to see if the interruptions occur. For the moment, all's going well.. I'm hoping it's all in the card...

System "almost" perfect! (SOLVED)
Hi everyone, well, my KXStudio is working great. I do have one strange problem however: every now and then, I get a type of "zap!" or "crack!" sound, either while playing live or reproducing audio. Like lightning out of a blue sky. No indicators are given in the Jack message boar...

Re: Compiling apps in KXStudio
Hi Pablo, thanks for the suggestion. I installed the "build-essential" package as you recommended. Redoing the install, this is what I got: brian@brian-kxstudio:~/tarballs/SpiralSynth-2.0.0$ ./configure loading cache ./config.cache checking for gcc... (cached) gcc checking whether the C co...

Compiling apps in KXStudio
Hi everyone, I've downloaded a couple of Linux-based synths, such as this: http://www.spectmorph.org/downloads/ which requires Beast, so I installed it.. and this: http://www.pawfal.org/SpiralSynth/ Now, I'm new to configuring things. I installed a library that was needed (libglib2.0-dev) and aptitu...

Re: regarding the VST instruments at Le Site De Burnie
... I've been doing some of the same work, using Festige, with synths from KVR. (if you do a search, you can specify "instruments" and "free" and "software" --and it comes up with a bunch of synths... about 1066... Yep, I've made that search many times. It proves a poi...

Re: regarding the VST instruments at Le Site De Burnie
Greetings, The database for working VST/VSTi plugins at linuxaudio.org is hopelessly corrupted so I decided to start my own. I've begun my search with this site : http://lesitedeburnie.free.fr/lalistedeburnie1-en.html I'm going through every synth listed on the site, something like 170+ plugins. I'...

... sometimes asking is better, just to make sure. Hear, hear. I wish I had a list of all the questions I asked when I was learning how to use Linux/UNIX in the mid-90s, I believe it would make an impressively sizable document. I spoke on a similar topic at Stanford at LAC this year. I owe so much ...

Re: VST instruments in Carla
@brianc What's there to be confused about? Having this programs is just like having garageband, pro tools, and fl studio your computer in windows. They each have their pros/cons and provide variety for different levels of music creation/mixing. That's what I thought. But sometimes asking is better,...

Re: VST instruments in Carla
You should really use 'klaudia' to know which FX and instruments are availalable. (and I'll soon have an update to this tool :D) On top of my mind: samplers: Qsynth - loads any soundfont file (sf2), works in both ALSA and JACK midi Qsampler - loads any gig or sfz file via linuxsampler, works in bot...

Re: KXStudio FAQ
With respect to your creative sensibilities, I would suggest that you remove the application of the theme from the Welcome Script or at least default it to not selected. Isn't System->Preferences->Appearance->Themes the appropriate place to be changing the appearance of the desktop? Shouldn't the K...
