8 Gb were a must for me and I got them. SSD were a must as well as I wanted it fast and silent. I got the i3 though as I was going out of budget.

[SOLVED] Pro audio on a SSD drive Laptop

Hi guys! I have recently purchased this sexy thing . I configured it with a single SSD drive. It ROCKS and I feel confident in recommend it. However, I did not tested it extensively. I will publish a review later on. Anyway. I will remove the standard Ubuntu it came with to install Arch Linux. I am ...

Did you try your guitar on another PC, maybe a windows one? I wondering whether you have a faulty one...

Re: Epiphone Les Paul Ultra-III AWOL on Ubu system.

Hi! From the link you posted seems like the guitar should work out of the box. Try to plug your guitar before boot and then give the output of this:

Code: Select all

amidi -l

Re: USB interface latency

Actually it's quite interesting that you get better latency with the Mobile-Pre which is a USB1 interface. This really points to to the USB controller, cable or possibly the driver... Sorry for my bad English, seems I was not clear on that. Actually I get better latency with the Scarlett (~1...

Re: USB interface latency

Hay. Today I was in the University's labs and I found one of these old fashioned MAudio mobile pre . I tested it quickly with my Linux box. Seems to work well out of the box, the latency is the only thing I looked into. It was 10 bloody ms greater than the one measured with the Scarlett 2i4 (same ja...

Re: good desktop system from scratch

Hi! I don't have much stuff to share, only a couple of things that popped up in my mind. You are planning to use an USB sound-card, so to have a quiet fan should not be essential. Quite fans are intended to reduce the acoustic and (if lucky) electromagnetic noise inside the PC case as generated by t...

Re: USB interface latency

You can use jack_delay (from http://kokkinizita.linuxaudio.org/linuxaudio/ ) to measure the real latency. The latency reported by jack (and its configuration tools) is only the one introduced by the buffer, it doesn't - and can't - measure all the other ones: USB driver, AD/DA conversions etc. More...

Re: USB interface latency

I don't think crosstalk will be too much of an issue for 2i2 owners It is a very annoying thing once you are aware of it but yes, I got to try to make scientific measurements to notice it. Using the device for home studio / music stuff shouldn't give much issues. Seems fair, since the device is des...

Re: USB interface latency

Hi! I own a Scarlett 2i4 (pretty much the same stuff of the 2i2 a part for MIDI ports and a couple of outputs more). As part of my MSc project in Audio Acoustics I am using it for some audio equipment measurement. As such, I had to determine the sound card response at first. I see a lot of people re...

Re: jackd synchronous mode: do this exists anymore?

Oops  . Tried again with this command: /usr/bin/jackd -S -P80 -t5000 -dalsa -r96000 -p1024 -n2 -D -Chw:Intel -Phw:Intel A sample jack_iodelay output: 2086.807 frames 21.738 ms total roundtrip latency extra loopback latency: 38 frames use 19 for the backend arguments -I and -O This time: 2087 -...

jackd synchronous mode: do this exists anymore?

Hi guys, I am doing some experiment with jack_iodelay. From the jack_iodelay manpage: To use the value measured by jack_iodelay with the -I and -O arguments of a JACK backend (also called Input Latency and Output Latency in the setup dialog of qjackctl), you must subtract the JACK buffer size from t...

[SOLVED] Jack Transport and command line

Hi cool people! I need to write a script to help me out in measuring audio equipment. I need to start the jack transport from command line. I have tried this: jack_transport but I don't like it. In facts, that command will open an interface where I can type the instructions. I don't really know how ...
