Re: Which Linux Distro should i choose for Music production 2021

Lowlatency kernel in Ubuntu variants seems to perform approximately the same as the realtime kernel in Manjaro for my tests anyway (at the lowest latency my audio devices can handle, and around 90% CPU load without causing xruns or becoming unstable/sluggish). Maybe the realtime kernel in Manjaro is...

Re: Which Linux Distro should i choose for Music production 2021

I agree with Death. (There's a sentence I never thought I'd type.) :) I use XFCE though. No offense meant to anyone maintaining a DAW-specific distro. But I have newer hardware (AMD CPU, newer mainboard, newer audio device) so I want a newer kernel that supports it properly for all the features, plu...

Re: Free acoustic drum bank for DrumGizmo, 1.7 GB, round robin

@JamesPeters, this is a great kit. I've been using it for months. Per funkmuscle's comment, I think your work would be a great addition to the official kits at drumgizmo.org. Any reason it can't be listed there? I'm glad you like it! Props to Vincent who recorded his drum kit for the samples! I'd b...

I updated the kit with the hihat MIDImap re-arrangement.

Directed choke issue in 0.9.19?

I noticed today, using 0.9.19, that the ability to choke the open hihat doesn't seem to work anymore for my kit, which uses directed choke for the hihats (any closed hit hihat "instrument" will choke any open hit hihat "instrument"). My kit file is based on the code from when dir...

Re: Drumkit Licensing

My DrumGizmo kit (linked in my signature) is using that same license but has no additional stipulation about attribution. Use it how you wish. The only thing I ask: if you want to donate any money for the kit, donate it to the person who recorded the samples of his drum kit (his website donation li...

Re: DrumGizmo 0.9.19 Released!

Largos You can set a default for any parameter of any plugin, within Reaper anyway. Make the plugin settings as you wish. Save that as a preset in Reaper. (It can even be named "no preset" or "default" preset.) Then from the preset options menu (the + sign), choose "make pr...

Re: Free acoustic drum bank for DrumGizmo, 1.7 GB, round robin

"You guys"? You mean me? :) It's only downloadable from that link, so far, that I know about anyway. I may update it at some point. I was thinking of changing the order of MIDI notes for the open and closed hats (all open hat variants such as 1" open, 2" open, 3" open all gr...

Re: Compile problem?

I managed to do just that, build a Linux vst version. And it seems to work great with your drumkit too! How did you build it with 18 outs? I'm glad to help! During the configure step, add this option: --enable-custom-channel-count=18 Or whatever number you want. I like using a version of my kit wit...

Re: Compile problem?

In Reaper for Linux, you should use the Linux VST version instead. I'm currently using it. I've actually built a version with more than 16 outs from the source, and it works fine too.

That is, if you plan to keep using Reaper.

Re: Once i've installed the/a lowlatency kernel, what more setup is there to do?

You probably want to turn off USB autosuspend. I use the same interface and it was fairly aggressively "going to sleep", which wasn't a problem with Pulse at "average latencies" (normal everyday computer stuff) but was problematic with ALSA and Jack at low latency. Here's a post ...

Re: Waves of xruns with long, irregular intervals in between

I have been struggling with x-runs at anything below 48/256/3 (I have 3700x as well, MSI b450 board and 32gb 3200mhz ram) Even trying all of this as well as all the rtirq stuff, testing OK on everything on the realtimequickscan, I'm still stuck at AT BEST 48/128 (even that isnt really fully stable)...

Re: Waves of xruns with long, irregular intervals in between

I'd re-enable hyperthreading. That's not likely to be the problem, and it can help your performance. Since I use Reaper and plugins "within Reaper" only (no standalone synths/plugins connected via Jack), I don't have to do much for my system to perform very well. My CPU is a Ryzen 7 3700X....

Re: Latency decreasing after each measurement?

Unfortunately I have discovered that the rt kernel cannot be used with nvidia video cards. I have been able to use the low latency kernel in the Ubuntu repo as well as real-time kernels in the Manjaro repo (possibly also real-time kernel in MX Linux's repo, but I can't recall) while using the propr...
