Re: The state of Linux DAWs in 2021?

The general consensus on the reaper forum is that Justin isn't too concerned about this General consensus isn't how this works, even if you were right. You do realize he's not the only developer, right? I assume more money goes to the other developer, and possibly anyone else contracted to help fro...

Re: The state of Linux DAWs in 2021?

It's not entirely true. You can certainly use Reaper for as long as you want without paying any money, the only difference between paying for it and not paying is waiting 5 seconds to press OK. I've been using for for about three years now and haven't purchased it. Ok let's not go there lol. The te...

Re: JACK is Hannibal Lector with an ear fetish

Oh, just let Jeff be angry with his rants about how terrible all of Linux is for DAW use. It seems he really wants to be angry. Let's not take that away from him. :)

Re: XML question regarding midimaps

You can currently accomplish something like this by setting up the instrument XML file differently. The "sample name" just needs to consist of multiple source audio files. You can combine multiple source audio files into one "sample name". The "sample name" doesn't need...

Re: JACK is Hannibal Lector with an ear fetish

And then there ARE times when I fire up Reaper (that's what I am used to) to record my session where it is totally OK to just use ONE interface but preferable with low latency. ASIO as we used to say on Windows. A Ryzen 7 3800XT, 32GB RAM plus SSD should be plenty enough power to record a simple mo...

Re: JACK is Hannibal Lector with an ear fetish

Jack is something I don't use, since I prefer to have my "DAW ecosystem" be contained within the DAW (plugins). That's the way I worked in Windows and OSX, and I find it convenient. Using a DAW in Linux, however, historically had some limits and workarounds. Only recently have there been m...

Re: Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 3rd gen recording volume too low.

I'm using a 2i2, 3rd gen device. It works fine without any extra software/patches. I'm currently using kernel 5.11.6-1 in Manjaro 21.0, but the 2i2 3rd gen has been working fine for me since I bought it (November 2019) in various distros/kernels. There are no controls for it in ALSAmixer, and none a...

Re: Anybody else's USB interface randomly going silent?

You didn't mention if you tried a new cable. I understand that you didn't move your cable. Consider however that the cable may have a flaw which causes problems even if you don't move the cable. If you ignore this step, you're avoiding eliminating a variable that's one of the most common causes of p...

Re: Ugly distortion with Jack at random times

You changed the number of periods from 3 to 2 (while increasing the blocksize). Try changing the number of periods to 3 again (or 4), and then try reducing blocksize. You may just need more periods, even if they're a smaller size. I use 4 periods of 64 samples, for instance, and it's very stable (Fo...

Re: Ugly distortion with Jack at random times

In Manjaro, I use TLP and its frontend TLPUI. It allows for disabling that, setting the CPU frequency governor, and more.

Re: Ugly distortion with Jack at random times

Have you disabled USB_autosuspend? I found that step to be important for reliable performance with USB audio in ALSA and Jack.

I notice it's named Vitalium. Are there differences between this and Vital?

Re: Anybody else's USB interface randomly going silent?

I had the same issue with the same interface. Stopping "USB autosuspend" fixed it.

In Manjaro I use TLP to change that setting. There's a GUI front-end for it named TLP UI too. (I'm sure there are other ways of changing that setting, but that's how I do it.)
