Re: Can't start JACK - " jackdbus is not available"
And all JACK controls are greyed out. I installed QjackCtl and is fails to start JACK too: . open QjackCtl then open the patchbay and click load with your instruments plugged in.This should pickup your instruments automatically. Then open Connect and make your connections manually. Then click start...

Re: what's the best way to write music and have synths play
I use nted It's available under Debian wheeze repositories, but it dose have a few bugs. The bugs have workarounds. After writing your score you can directly export it as a midi. You will need a software synthesizer program like timidity, to playback, or to hear your notes.. This has a little informa...

Re: Good article about sample rates
All I look for is quality in sound, I have a flac file of a singer in a studio sitting on a stool, with a guitar singing. I can hear every movement she makes, along with how her fingers rub the strings. In the mp3 file format, I don't hear any of that. Same recording just different file formats. But...

Re: Good article about sample rates
When recording something in flac, with no set bit rate. The bit rate changes with the sound produced.
It hold true with 16bit or 32bit float integers.
I like recording lossless anyway. It's the best sound reproduction. .

Re: How much Realtime CPU do you use?
I have old hardware, and i use LMMS with a midi Keyboard.
I rarely go above 50% but it depends upon how many instruments is in LMMS when recording.
This one went above 50% recording the last instrument.

Re: Here's soMe music I made
Just listened to yo-wow. I opened the link expecting some rock & roll tune, and was greeted by an EDMish track. I was amazed to hear the quality of the mix. Keep on the good work. Thank you, I have noticed that my sound levels, are higher than most on SoundCloud. They will ether stand out more,...

Re: Firefox Malware in linux ! Serisously!
btw, I don't know why you're so surprised that there's malware on linux. every OS is bound to have malware sooner or later (specially if good practices are not followed). with linux getting more and more attention, it's obvious there will be malicious interest for this side too. Malware with linux ...

Re: Firefox Malware in linux ! Serisously!
Ive reset firefox but it still pops up. Did you empty your cashe in firefox? Those temporary files can effect the browse at times, even hold malware that effects the browser. Just waiting for the trigger to give you popups. When all else fails, re-install firefox. dpkg --purge firefox Then apt-get ...

Re: Here's soMe music I made
I don't know why everyone went to USB, but I have an old 88 key portable piano connected via the firewire port on my sound card. Which gives me very little latency, compared to USB. ( I guess I'm showing the age of my equipment. :) ) Now to get with the music I make with it. Just an arrangement, I m...

This is my project, the 32bit version has little to be desired, but the 64 bit has everything I use except, the kernel
You can add the kernel via, the smxi script.

Re: Mbox1 Clicks and Pops (USB AUDIO)
Would adding a PCI USB card possibly help? Im using the onboard USB ports on my motherboard. its a cheap motherboard so probably not the best. It only has 4 ports + an extra 2 USB 1.1 ports that are on headers and im using them all at the moment. If you have USB 2.0 ports available it will help dra...

Re: Looking for distro - non Pae
Hi Eino, So my questions and my quest is aimed at optimizing and building a system based on Peppermint 3, which I find highly appealing. I will repeat my questions again in a new thread with a more suitable heading. Peppermint 3, is Ubuntu based using the LXDE desktop. But it is still Debian based....
