Re: falkTX radio interview
I had problems downloading the entire file. I'm still not entirely sure that I did, as it was too long for one sitting, and I haven't finished it yet --- but one or two attempts only transferred a few minutes. I then had problems playing it. I was using Aqualung, because it is my usual music-playing...

Re: falkTX radio interview
Echoing wolftune. My mouth fell open when FalkTX said he started with Ubuntu 10.04 which means he's been working at this stuff for not much over three years, not just learning a bit of programming, but taking on an entire area of Linux and revolutionising it. It's an amazing accomplishment: there re...

Re: KXStudio recent updates - any problems?
Should have included: I am on 12.04 --- but my system seems to have picked them up today, with update manager showing me a mega list. I just have to wait out this power cut...

Re: I get locked out of forum searching way too often
I often find that forum-software searches are not very good, quite apart from restrictions such as this. My suggestion is to use google with site:www.linuxmusicians.com (or whatever forum) as part of the search

Re: KXStudio recent updates - any problems?
I'm only seeing updates in "testing" which I am not rushing to install as they are plugins that I do not use, and "kernel" which I am also not installing as I have to keep to 3.2 and an older version of Catalyst for my video chip, which AMD have dropped later support for. Only ha...

Re: Any recommended PCIe audio card?
I'd be surprised if there were any difficulty at all in USA, and, if I were you I'd start at my local musician's/studio-stuff shop. Failing that, go this ESI Distributor's page and click "buy now" for a list of sources.

Re: Any recommended PCIe audio card?
Was going to mention/ask about the Juli@, available in PCI and PCIe versions. Wonderfully, the product page actually says "Linux compatible (ALSA)". I love it when they do that :) My complaint about PC audio interfaces: simple 2-in-2-out is so hard to find. Well, here is one ---and I am to...

Re: which song is coming out of your speakers right now?
Quicksilver Messenger Service.
A concert recording downloaded from Wolfgang's vault.
Apart from a rather heavy song about why one shouldn't take codeine for fun (a warning I don't need) --- it's wonderful.
Before that, and prompted by a live recital, a couple of Dhrupad days.

Re: Installing a newer version of an app not in the reposito
if I want to remove a previous version, is it sufficient to do a "sudo rm -R [/usr/app-to--be-removed]", If it is a version you compiled and installed, see if the make file has an uninstall option. I'd be very loathe to stomp around the file system rm-ing things without thinking ten times...

Re: Installing a newer version of an app not in the reposito
it is better to uninstall the repository version before installing your home-compiled version. If you do not, then the system thinks it has to look after updates, which it will try to do. Confusion may result. Using the "local" paths is one way of maintaining different versions at the same...

Re: Installing a newer version of an app not in the reposito
Is compiling basically just following the "readme" for install instructions, and then adding any apps that the terminal indicates are missing, and then re-trying the install? Yes! It will tend to be libraries, rather than "apps" that come up as missing dependencies. My first ste...

Re: auto-routing
Concerning scripting to make connections if you just need to restore some static setup you can make all the connections by any method and then use "aj-snapshot <filename>" to save current connections to file <filename>. Then later, you can restore the connections with "aj-snapshot -r...

Re: Lexicon Alpha Pro Configuration?
Possibly. $ aplay -l Might give you a useful clue as to how to refer the device as an alsa device when configuring jack. How are you configuring/controlling jack? ie, qjackctl; cadence, etc? That would help people answer your question. In fact, someone is sure to ask for the output of that aplay -l ...

Re: Should KXStudio repos move to Debian?
As a user, I felt that I should vote, even though I don't feel qualified. I voted yes. From my meagre linux knowledge, I think it will make for a better future. Added my small voice to what seems to be a big shout from more experienced members. Personally, very possible I may stay with U-12.04 for a...
