Re: best or good strings?
Holy ****. Keep calm. Like I said, I'm working on an orchestra template for Ardour. My goal is that when it is finished, other people should be able to just open the ardour project and have an orchestra ready to go. The only dependencies should be Virtual Playing Orchestra, Maestro Concert Grand, L...

Re: Orchestra Reverb
The reverb I use most is Zita Rev1 Zita doesn't differentiate between early reflections and late reverb (for that matter, neither does TAP), but now that I think of it, as long as the CPU usage per instance is low enough, maybe I could fake it with two instances, one for early reflection and anothe...

Re: Orchestra Reverb
I haven't tried Calf Vintage Reverb, I'll have to take it for a spin. Just curious, what kind of music are you doing with it?FaTony wrote:I find the default settings of Calf Vintage Reverb pretty good for my tastes.

Re: Orchestra Reverb
Sorry, now that I'm taking another look around, I'm not finding any spring reverb plugins. I was probably getting the term confused with something else. On the bright side, my looking around reminded me that TAP Reverb has some concert hall presets, I tried that a while ago when I first started expe...

Orchestra Reverb
Is anybody here using a free/oss orchestra hall reverb that they're happy with? I'm using freeverb3 which sounds really nice for orchestral instruments and has features that I like, but the VST isn't compiled for Linux, so I'm using Carla's win64 bridge. It ends up using more CPU than I would like, ...

Re: best or good strings?
The easiest way to load SFZ samples is probably to use Carla, which lets you simply find an SFZ file and load it. If you are not already using the KxStudio repos, please go to http://kxstudio.linuxaudio.org/Repositories and follow the instructions that say "You can install it manually by runnin...

Re: best or good strings?
There are a few good free options, depending on what you're looking for. The already mentioned No Budget Orchestra is excellent. Here are two others worth consideration: VSCO2 Community Edition: http://vis.versilstudios.net/vsco-community.html Virtual Playing Orchestra: http://virtualplaying.com/vir...

Re: Buyers advice for a novice
I had a very similar Yamaha model (one that isn't made anymore, this was years ago) when I started doing midi composition. This should work fine, to get started you just need something that will send midi events to your software. Of course you can spend much much more if you want some 88-key weighte...

Re: Mr. E's
You shouldn't need a login. Yes, drop box insists on showing that pop over dialog asking you to sign in, but you can click the X in the corner to make it go away. I've tried to sign up for a sound cloud account multiple times and always get an error. EDIT: Just tried to create a sound cloud account ...

Mr. E's
This is a rough draft, intended to be a progressive rock song. My friend who told me he would record electric guitar and bass parts has as of yet not done much, and there isn't a rock percussion track yet. https://www.dropbox.com/s/8hzpbcy94vfscjn/Mr.%20E%27s%20Draft%202017-1-18.mp3?dl=0 For those w...

Re: Original orchestral piece
It is fairly easy. Select the track you want the event in and move the cursor to just before the note(s) you want to affect. In the main window click on: Open in Event List Editor Then: Edit->Insert Event Change the Event Type to Controller, and enter the values you want. You can edit the exat time...

Re: linuxsampler "Not a RIFF file" error
Best of luck! Let us know how it goes, I've also just recently put together an orchestral project template for Ardour using Virtual Playing Orchestra. If you finish a piece of music I would love to hear it. I also know that Paul has been interested in some demo tracks, so if you want to contribute t...
