Re: audio damage
Roughrider 3 works in Reaper on my system. (Xubuntu 19.10 with glibc 2.30). Also the plugin takes very little CPU.

Re: xruns(this discussion is not for smart ass remarks, it's to help each other)
To keep CPU lower, try to not use resampling in DrumGizmo. Set your project sample rate to whatever the kit's sample rate is. Also if you have enough RAM to load the entire kit, set the disk streaming slider all the way up (so it won't disk stream). That should help. The timing humanizer might be me...

Room / OH volume controls?
(Edit) I'm simplifying this suggestion, for clarification. Consider a drum kit which has all instrument (kit piece) multichannel WAV files with overhead and room channels specified in the "instrument" XML files, and those channels all feed into overhead and room buses (common output channe...

Re: round robin
I know what DrumGizmo does for its power selection of samples. It is a good idea, however it requires some special consideration when making a kit. Round-robin in itself addresses the issue of how a kit piece sounds different even if struck with the exact same strength in the exact same location, ir...

Re: round robin
The idea of round-robin is: at each velocity layer, there is an alternate sample (or samples) which are supposed to sound almost the same but slightly different (minor variations in exactly where a kit piece is struck, for instance), and the computer will select each of them in sequence or at random...

Re: Excessive XRUNS with Ubuntu Studio, jackd and Ardour.
The voicing limiting feature is a great idea. I know several people who have struggled to get solid performance with DrumGizmo, and I know from my testing that having multiple samples of the same kit piece continually playing ("stacked", as the decay is still happening) affects it a lot. T...

Re: [DrumGizmo] Mix instruments
You definitely can, although how "compatible" they are (in the sense of being a kit which functions the same in all regards, or if it sounds right when you combine the kit pieces) depends on how the kits were recorded. Some kits are recorded with bleed channels, some aren't. Some kits are ...

Re: Why I can't get away from Windows (for now)
Reaper is amazing, but if you prefer the live aspects of something like Ableton (loops and song "chunks" reorganizing on the fly etc.), Reaper probably won't be what you want.

Re: Tuning out Xruns, cgroups usage advice
With 2 different computer systems (Ryzen 3700X, Core i3-6300) I tried Kubuntu, and later with Lubuntu I added KDE Plasma (comparing it with Lxqt). So I've tried KDE Plasma twice, with that second time being a direct comparison to Lxqt (all else being equal). Having KDE Plasma on either system meant ...

Re: Scarlett 18i8 3rd Gen - constant click noises but no xruns
Since I'm using a more current kernel than you, I wonder if that has something to do with it. Mint allows for swapping of kernels fairly easily, if I recall correctly from when I ran Mint. There's a provision in its "software sources" or something (I forget what it's called on Mint) where ...

Re: VST3 support in Linux?
It's doubtful any DAW will include support for VST plugins made for a different OS. It can be enough hassle for the devs of a DAW to keep up with compatibility of plugins which are written for that OS, let alone including bridging to plugins meant for a different OS. Plus there are already (third-pa...

Re: Scarlett 18i8 3rd Gen - constant click noises but no xruns
Ah so there was a method of stopping that MSD storage configuration built into the hardware, not even mentioned in the manual. Thanks for mentioning that. This thread may help others using the 3rd generation Focusrite Scarlett series in the future, with info like that. Oh by the way that workaround ...

Re: Scarlett 18i8 3rd Gen - constant click noises but no xruns
I have a 3rd gen 2i2 that I got a week ago, and it's working well. Currently I'm using Xubuntu 19.10 with realtime kernel 5.3.0-19 (also tested in Lubuntu 19.10 with same kernel). The only time I hear a click is when switching sample rates. This applies to when a Youtube video is 48 KHz, after havin...

Re: Surge synth testers wanted, also an LV2 version in the works
It has that, VST2, VST3, and a bunch of presets. You can open the Deb package with an archive manager to see. It might be possible to place the files on the hard drive yourself if you put them in the right locations. Anyway it seems to be a rather innocent Deb package. (edit) I forgot it also had a ...

Re: What preference do you have for DAWs?
Since a lot of DAWs in Linux are free, it's a good idea to try them to see which workflow suits you best. Each has something about it that's different, and to some people it's a make-or-break difference. No DAW is absolutely perfect/flawless either. I use Reaper. It can usually bend to fit the workf...
