Transformator

Tim, When I click on the OK button of the Transformator dialog, sometimes it takes a long time for Muse to select all the filtered events, especially if there are a lot of midi tracks, and "process all events" is checked. But there's no visual feedback to show that Muse is "busy"...

Re: Mainlining Real time patches into the generic kernel (Status update)

I think we're at the point where those patches to the kernel source code have achieved all the speed improvements we're going to get out of them. Whatever patches are left will make little difference. If we want any more performance improvements we've now got to look to not what source code we add t...

My trip to NYC (Warning: Humor + lots of words)

I had a recent conversation with a friend. (Yes, I have friends, and they... well, him... ok it's me and a furbie. Every 5 minutes we wake up, scream something at each other, and go back to sleep.) I was reminded of something that happened to me, which some may find entertaining (at least to someone...

Re: Using DAW-buttons on a midi-keyboard

Just a followup. I've started working with Muse's Transformator dialog. Although it's fundamentally the same as cakewalk's "Event Filter" dialog, it has an entirely different way of specifying and executing an operation, In particular, my above paragraph about the settings being in effect ...

Re: Mainlining Real time patches into the generic kernel (Status update)

Yeah, but the printk stuff doesn't really affect us musicians. Except for debugging, there's little need for music software to be sending stuff to a terminal window or log file. So we already have what we need in the standard linux kernel. I don't think there's a real need for these specialized &quo...

Hey, I didn't make the water turn brown. Maybe a little bit yellow, but not brown.

he doesn’t have a magic wand to simply wave and make the problem go away. I was going to agree that none of us have a magic wand to do that. But then I remembered on my last visit to Disneyland, I picked up a Sorcerer's Apprentice model wand at the Magic Kingdom gift shoppe. So I thought I'd give i...

Logic is cheese. Noted. You're thinking too linearly, imposter. In order to understand merlyn, you have to think like him, which means circular reasoning. So it goes like this: Cheese is logic. Loglc is a DAW for MacOS MacOS is made by Apple Apple makes computers computers run linux linux is used b...

Re: Using DAW-buttons on a midi-keyboard

That makes it rather useless to block the unwanted transport button release messages with then. Actually I'm describing the way it worked in calkwalk. It could be slightly different in muse. I haven't gotten around to verifying any differences (which is why I wanted you to write the tutorial. It se...

Re: Using DAW-buttons on a midi-keyboard

I'm not comfortable with writing a tutorial about something I'm clueless about. Moreover, I fail to see how I could find out what the various options and settings actually do, with just my basic midi keyboard to fool around with. Ok, if I can get some time, I'll try and put something together. This...

Re: Continuing the jack/pipewire debate...

different latencies set for different applications is very useful for me Sure is. That's why I use ALSA. I can also set different sample rate, bit resolution, data format (interleaved vs non) per app. That's very useful to me too. change the latency on the fly and from within my daw ALSA again. not...

What exactly is it, in a practical use case examples, that people are not able to achieve with pipewire? What exactly is it, in a practical use case examples, that you've achieved with pipewire that you can't do without it? Frankly, I think it probably will be replaced by something else within 5 ye...

Re: Continuing the jack/pipewire debate...

seems very unreasonable to me to expect PipeWire to outperform what many systems dare not achieve with JACK and ALSA. I agree 100 percent. But the pipewire devs have only themselves to blame for criticism that they haven't delivered a comparable, suitable replacement for jack. After all, there's no...
