For curiousity reasons, I'd like to know why do they appear in profiles like mine?
Also, the numbers in the registration page do not appear to be random at all. Just everyone out there registering in the forum would enter a number "5" and that would let the spam in.

Re: Open Source section
... It can be easier than that. Several excellent websites have vendor-specific subforums, where authors can make announcements, post links, delete spam, and respond to user questions and comments that don't fit the more general discussions. And users share lots of related tips in such places. It's ...

Re: Future of LinuxMusicians?
I'm pretty sure at least some of the spammers are actual humans. In the 'top 10 musicians' topic, there were 2 spam posts that had perfectly plausible lists, except that the artists where collected from previous posters with varying tastessteevc wrote:Is it likely to be humans registering?

Getting back to the spammers, what do we know about them? I see that the registration form has 3 different fields that try to block bots. I don't know how good the bots are these days. Is it likely to be humans registering? It's not ...

Well, I've followed the links at the beginning of the thread, and they're all clogged with spam. I'm assuming they never got past the idea stage. Oh, wow, that's, eh, so much spam. And no, I haven't done anything else than just put those up. Maybe I'll just delete them... ...

Well, I've followed the links at the beginning of the thread, and they're all clogged with spam. I'm assuming they never got past the idea stage. How old is this site? I've noticed lots of really old threads (and I foolishly posted in one). Maybe the forum needs to be ...

Re: Spammers working overtime
... small forum like this takes a lot of time. I don't know what the options are, but I'd like to see a transition to something that allows for better spam prevention and more moderators. This is a great community and I want to see it continue. Thanks

Re: Spammers working overtime
Can anything be done about the quantity of spam here? At times it exceeds the number of real posts. I keep flagging them, but I expect Nathan has limited time to get on here and ban them. It gets annoying when I see that there is a new post, but ...

This 'heater spam' is getting really annoying. Is this for example all posted from the same IP? It'd be nice to be able to block it.
