If there, remove the "quiet" argument from the kernel's grub command line. Do you see any error messages?

Re: Csound, SuperCollider, RtCmix, Pd, OpenMusic: What Distr
Does dragging and dropping work for you? On my debian wheezy box it produced weird interface glitches last time I tried it. nothing works for me so far, I can't get the program to start. Are you the same Arthur posting to the OM mailing list? I've never had the sort of problems being discussed ther...

Right now I'm trying to get OpenMusic running on fedora 20 but no luck yet. Did you install the fonts ? Is JACK running ? I have it running flawlessly on Fedora 19, hopefully 20 isn't too different. Re: FIND
Still, how does an audio setup harm from killing find? Removing 'find' itself? That'll possibly break all kinds of software, including audio tools. kill != remove Removing updating the locatedb from cron? well, you won't be able to use 'locate' anymore - might not be a huge deal. You don't need to ...

Re: FIND
It certainly is what we do not know that counts. Still, how does an audio setup harm from killing find? Also, what specific needs do you have for cron on your audio system? You might be in the middle of a mix and happen to have forgotten the daemon is running and all of the sudden face the problem t...

Re: Is Rosegarden Suitable for Piano Players?
I hit the same problem trying to write parts on rosegarden. AFAIK, your best choice to music notation on linux is to use some lilypond frontend (or lilypond itself) since it has advanced voice handling features. All the rest of the linux score editors I've tried so far fail on that front except for ...

Re: FIND
You can disable cron and anacron using rcconf.
And you can kill find with "sudo killall -9 find".
Good luck!

Re: Tips for DAW on older hardware
I run qtractor on a celeron 330 (or is it 430?) with 1GB of RAM. It works superb. It's a debian wheezy gig with dwm, which is probably not the lightest, but is completely bug-free. To remove the clutter I always install rcconf and disable everything except udev. Using a WM like dwm assures you that ...

Re: Plugins for the layman
I guess the best approach here is to learn at least the basics of electroacustics and dsp. I don't mean all the maths background, at least just the concepts. At the same time, read on specific effects and how they affect signals in the time and the frequency domain. Complement all this with hearing ...

Re: MuseScore «full buffer not available at start» error
I don't know about ubuntu (which kxstudio is based on) but on debian wheezy, the musescore compilation had a problem where you couldn't set it to JACK MIDI without the program crashing. Might be something similar. Backup your old config and launch the program to get a new one created. mv ~/.config/M...

Re: midifilter lv2
nice plugins, but don't work well in carla :( http://www.linuxmusicians.com/viewtopic.php?f=47&t=11820 I had that same problem both with carla and qtractor. I tried mapping a knob in my keyboard to the channel mapper plugin, but it would work inconsistently in carla and not at all inside qtract...

Re: Should I compose music on linux?
I guess the best choice when it comes to writing scores is using lillypond through frescobaldi. Lilypond is a text based score editor where you write a text file and then use a "compiler" (the lilypond command itself) to get the score exported to pdf, and midi if required. Frescobaldi is a...

Re: Sampler that records samples I record then samples simpl
Hi, I'm attaching a patch I made on puredata to record samples. Once you connect it to the midi input of whatever you are trying to record, and of course, connect the audio accordingly, just toggle the bang on the top, and it will record until the signal drops below 35dB. For each sample you take, m...

Check out the levels in alsamixer.
On my laptop I have a slider for speakers and another one for headphones.
Good luck.
