Re: FOCUSRITE - Scarlet 2i4 - setup (Archlinux)

Ah yes, the kernels after 3.6 and at least through 3.10 have been giving USB interface users a load of trouble. If you can find something older, it will work better. There is some hope that there are fixes in 3.11 kernels, but I haven't yet upgraded to Saucy Salamander to look closely at it. The eas...

Ardour 3.5 question.

Hey developers, What does this mean to the average Linux Audio User? Will we be gaining anything here? Ardour is now (theoretically) no longer dependent on JACK. The functionality provided by JACK has been abstracted to allow 3rd parties to provide implementations that directly use various platform ...

Re: FOCUSRITE - Scarlet 2i4 - setup (Archlinux)

So do I have to choose JACK driver with all the applications I want to connect to JACK? What about Ardour which doesn't have this option. It only has theese options: ALSA OSS FreeBoB FFADO NetJACK <----- is this the one to use??? Dummy If Ardour is asking you for these options, then Jack is not sta...

Re: FOCUSRITE - Scarlet 2i4 - setup (Archlinux)

You should already have jack running when you try to open any program that depends on it. The program should be able to figure out that jack is running and go from there. If you have audacity installed, make sure it is using the Jack driver (as opposed to ALSA) on the main screen. Play back any audi...

Re: how to run Windows program in Wine?

The "best" way is to use Wine, assuming the programs you are buying actually work in Wine. If they are simple programs and do not rely on a lot of windows specific bits (as in their code is mostly self contained) then you should have no worries. There is, of course, no guarantee that this ...

Re: Fedora 18 NI Guitar Rig

When I select the input device as Mic in where I have a guitar plugged in, I cannot hear any audio regardless of the connection. I can see in Guitar Rig and Guitarix that it is picking up audio, however everything is silent. Any thoughts? What tool are you using to make the connections between soft...

Re: Pitch and speed shifting

WHOA! Nevermind that! Use rate shifter. Still from the wonderful tools from Steve Harris. It ties both pitch and speed together. EDIT: It does seem to have a short memory and resets after a few seconds to track along with whatever is coming into the input. I wonder of a dev could lenthen that window...

Re: Pitch and speed shifting

There is a plugin called "Higher Quality Pitch Scaler" by Steve Harris that has worked well enough for me, though I don't tend to get very intense with it. It is available as LADSPA and LV2. Here's the blurb from the site : Higher Quality Pitch Scaler (pitchScaleHQ, 1194) A pitch shifter i...

Re: FOCUSRITE - Scarlet 2i4 - setup (Archlinux)

I have this same interface for my laptop. If you are new I'll recommend that you do the following: Make sure you have Wifi turned off. Wifi causes issues with USB cards on a lot of machines. The problem is that they send data through the same hardware, which causes the audio to have issues. Don't co...

Re: Help please! Crunchbang and the KXStudio repos...

The Debian repos are not complete yet, there is missing stuff. Whatever is there though works perfect. Some time ago I removed the meta-packages to clear any confusion, but now there are in there again (to make life a bit easier on me). Just be patient, we'll get a fully working and complete Debian...

Help please! Crunchbang and the KXStudio repos...

I saw a post hinting at the idea of using Crunchbang as a base system while adding the KXStudio repositories and thus having a somewhat minimal install that is just tuned for my purposes (In this case, audio production). I installed the KX repos with the .deb provided on this page : http://kxstudio....

Re: AVLinux (and KXStudio) development

@dednikko Do *you* notice anything substandard about DreamStudio? I haven't tried it... all I can glean from the website is that he's really drinking the Ubuntu kool-aid (Unity desktop, jack-pulseaudio integration, etc) and that's a problem for many of us here. Well, I have been running the KXStudi...

Re: AVLinux (and KXStudio) development

Well crap. I've been using DreamStudio for a while now, and had no idea that it was considered to be sub par. I suppose it's time to migrate to KXStudio? @Gmaq, I also have an AVLinux install on the laptop. It's phenomenally stable and fast. Your distro is why I bought Mixbus and nearly every LinuxD...

Re: Who here can master music for money?

The project will include one track first, paid, of course. Then, if I like to outcome, I'll send more to you. I have about 10 songs that need to be mastered. I look to get the project out by the end of the year. I've paid from $20 (a promotion) per song, to $200 for three songs (with my old rock ban...
