Re: Guitarix on a Raspberry Pi 2

It's possible. I always run 48kHz on my main machine, and never had any problems with Guitarix or any other sound software. I also run the sound card at 48kHz on a laptop I have, so the sound card should be allright too. So the issues must arise from the RPi itself and the software running on it, t...

Re: some new GxPlugins

Hi Hermann

Just tested my Beatles presets, and found that the GxSuppaToneBender also needs the resampling-fix.
The GxVmk2 and GxSuperFuzz now run smoothly.

Re: some new GxPlugins

Very cool. Thanks! These are great plugins.
I'll check them out.

Re: some new GxPlugins

I tested the GxTubeDistortion. Very nice sound, indeed!
It works perfectly at 96kHz - no trouble at all. Funny thing, the entire setup has more headroom at 96kHz, which I find really nice. Probably some 3-6db louder with the exact same settings. I like that a lot.

I found the schematics here:

Also based on a 12AU7 it seems.

Re: some new GxPlugins

I'll check it out at 96kHz. (Been looking for a tube distortion for a while BTW, to emulate my Vox BigBen Overdrive).
My main plugins are the SuperFuzz and GxVMK2, and they both act unstable at 96kHz. Would it be a lot of work to redo these plugins?

Re: some new GxPlugins

I could try it out at 96kHz, and see how it behaves. Would it perhaps be a possibility, to build the filters to work at a few selected frequencies, say, 48kHz, 96kHz and 192kHz, which are the most common ones? Alternatively, why not build the filters with a high internal sample frequency like 96kHz ...

Re: some new GxPlugins

I am glad that you know the reason. But I think it is a problem, as any serious user would want to run the simulations at higher sample rates. From my experience with the RPi, I can say, that 44.1kHz is just too low quality for serious use. The sound gets harsh and feels limited. 48kHz is marginally...

Re: some new GxPlugins

Ah. Think I discovered the cause. My system was running at 96kHz at the time, which made several of the plugins behave bad, and turn into loud noise generators. Switching to 48kHz (as I usually do) made them play nicely.

But that leaves the question, why don't they play nice at 96kHz?

Re: some new GxPlugins

As a side note, I should let you know that I've modified the GxSuperFuzz plug, the previous version used a silicon based diode model, which I've replaced now with a (as it should be) germanium based model. This naturally changed the character of the Fuzz. I like it even more now, but it may disturb...

Ah... that's good to hear. :D Thanks!
Or perhaps *not* to hear? :-)

Focusrite Saffire 40: Problems at 96kHz

Hi I made this comment under the other headline and got no response. So I guess I should try again under a more fitting headline: I tested my friends FSP 40 today using the tweaks above. It works prefectly when running at 48kHz. I can use a buffer size of 64 samples, and run with a latency of 1.3 ms...

Re: Focusrite Saffire Pro 40: Tips and tricks

I tested my friends FSP 40 today using the tweaks above. It works prefectly when running at 48kHz. I can use a buffer size of 64 samples, and run with a latency of 1.3 ms for tracking. Playback works perfectly. However, I have problems getting things to work at 96kHz. I can get jackd to start, buffe...

Re: some new GxPlugins

Extremely cool! Yes, it is indeed germanium diodes. I built my own (real-life) clone once, based on some old germanium diodes I had lying around, and the clone sounds *exactly* like the original. Can't wait to check the virtual clone out! Do I still have to download GxSuperFuzz separately and recomp...

I particularly like that you have gone for some of the 60'ies classics this time, and I will definitely check them out.
