Live with Linux

Hi Here's a number of live renditions of our old prog songs with my band mates from 30 years ago. For this live occasion, I built two keyboard PC setups for me and my mate, entirely based on Linux. The setups are based on Xubuntu 14.4 with KXStudio, Carla hosting SetBFree OB-XD MDA ePiano my own Mel...

Re: Focusrite Saffire Pro 40: Tips and tricks

I’ll check, but this is a firewire interface, and I dont think it is reckognized by alsamixer at all. I did check the ffado-mixer and everything looks right. But thanks for the suggestion. I really dont know what to do.

Re: Poll: What samplerate do you use with jack?

Frequencies much higher than we can hear are bad because they can cause audible interferences. I disagree. I think the audible interferences of inaudible frequencies is exactly the reason why recording at higher sample frequencies has value. So I consider them good. After all these frequencies are ...

Re: Poll: What samplerate do you use with jack?

48k. because it's always possible to downsample when needed, but upsampling is pointless in terms of overall sound quality. Upsampling a master would indeed be pointless. No it isn't like i've already explained. It is useful to load a lower rates recording in a higher rates master project. Then you...

But suppose the recorded material is at a low rate and resolution, such as 16/44.1. (I have such recordings from the 90´ies). My...

Re: Poll: What samplerate do you use with jack?

If you mix, say, a 45kHz and a 45.1kHz tone, it will produce audible side bands, and these should survive a mixdown to a lower sample rate like 44.1kHz. So the contents of recordings of higher sample rates will add something to the mix and the process. I usually record at 48kHz, but also have projec...

Re: Why Linux? And why Linux for pro-audio?

The development of proprietary software has a tendency to introduce proprietary standards that are optimal to the proprietary product, and will lock you into the commercial ecosystem of the company behind the product. I find that FOSS software developers do quite the opposite, collaborating on open ...

Re: Guitar tone sounds harsh and boxy

I use this to fix any harsh or boxy or nasty guitar tracks.. http://www.airwindows.com/energy-vst/ So glad i clicked this post. And brand spankin' new to boot, too... Yow ! Thanks! A very interesting plugin. But the fact that it only work at 44.1Hz makes it of limited use for me. I only w...

Re: New GxCreamMachine.lv2

I believe the majority of Fender amps use negative feedback to achieve the clean signature Fender sound. Marshall used it too, while Vox AC30 amps so do not. It's one of those things that are important to the final amp sound. On Vox' original blue series Valvetronix, the negative feedback loop was v...

Re: New GxCreamMachine.lv2

I must congratulate you on the basic sound of this simulation. It sounds really good. Lots of harmonics and top. With this simulation, I can run a line of effects in Carla, using the CreamMachine as the last stage before the interface out. I took the CreamMachine to the RPi. It compiles and runs bea...

Re: New GxCreamMachine.lv2

I am starting thinking that this plugin-from-schematics thing is literally the best thing since sliced bread. Gosh I still have to give it a try... +1 This is what has got me interested in the project too! I have tried circuit simulation on guitar signals with Spice, which does a similar thing, but...

Re: Guitarix on a Raspberry Pi 2

I can try to describe my setup so far. This Pi is version 2B with the official touch screen. Any newer version of the Pi will only make performance better. I have installed a Raspbian image with RT preconfigured. It's a build called Emlid, made for use in drones, but works nicely for audio as well: ...

Re: How to load presets in OBXD

ah, so the contents of the folder is not right. the presets need to go into ~/.lv2 directly (the xxx.lv2 stuff), not a folder that contains the presets. LV2 is very picky about what and how you put things in its path. This reminds me of an issue I've wanted to address for a while. Carlas carpx file...
