Re: Questions about using Debian
I'm currently trying out SolydX and it seems they are on top of their game so far. It hasn't done the "mouse freeze" thing that I seem to get with Mint and they had all dependencies for the Tracktion installer to work perfectly. So far so good. I think I might put the KX and Tango Studio r...

Re: Your Thoughts on EQs
Of the EQs i've tried (calf, TAP, EQ10, BlackEQ Steve harris Multiband,) the one that seems most reliable and easy to use is BlackEQ. I've got to try the others though. I really liked the calf EQ but it did give me some weird sounds when I got crazy with it. The TAP EQ is nice too but I like GUI's. ...

Re: Tracktion5 has arrived
Agreed. Both are good products from my experience and very reasonably priced for what they offer.

Re: Tracktion5 has arrived
I can't seem to find exactly how I did it. The website isn't working right now for me. All I can find is this: http://forums.tracktion.com/forum/tracktion-support/64-hi-guys-i-can-not-unlock-tracktion-4-after-purchase Which describes the process pretty much. I didn't have the problem with the userna...

Re: Tracktion5 has arrived
I had the same problem with registering. There was something I found about registering an offline computer I found in the manual or on the website that eventually worked. HA HA the irony! Such a problem arises from the software being proprietary

Re: Questions about using Debian
Just tried the SolydX live DVD. This looks like it's just what I was looking for. Thanks for the heads up. It looks like the business edition only comes in KDE but I prefer xfce. I'll probably go ahead and install it and see how it goes. Just a little worried about switching away from an Ubuntu base...

Re: Questions about using Debian
Did you solve this stuff with the youtube problem? I'm thinking of using debian xfce with KX repos if it works well. Either that or Mint xfce. Which is advisable?

Re: gentoostudio
I can't believe I just spent so many hours trying to do this  I could have written a symphony in that time. I have a new appreciation for the packagers out there who make audio distros possible for us regular people to use. EDIT: Sorry I was just frusterated. Looks like a cool idea but seems ...

Re: Collaboration/Session recordings/etc
Yeah I thought it would be cool to have some sort of collaborative music making among the Linux Musicians.

Re: Teragon Audio (for Linux)
These look useful. I like the Chaos chimp one. There was a time I was doing an Ardour session and had too many synths and plugins running and my latency set too low and it was causing lots of Xruns and making a weird computer noise and to my dismay none of it was actually recorded that way.

Who needs a drummer?
Anyone have any tracks that could use a real drummer? I have a basic setup for tracking drums. It's not the best room/mics/preamps etc. but it's decent and usable. I was thinking this could be a good learning experience on how to do this effectively (remote recording). You could send me a demo track...

Re: Here's soMe music I made
Thanks GMaq. The "no one to listen to" line is sort of a joke. I don't take it personally and I agree with what you say about finding an audience in this day and age. I really find joy in just making music and It's great to be able to just put it out there. It's also great to have this for...

Here's one made with Tracktion 4 using samples, TALnoisemaker and some other VST and LADSPA plugins.

Re: noob questions about samples
I'm not sure if there is anything like this. It may be that many people have a different idea of what the best samples are. I've just been piecing together my own libraries from the sources you mentioned and making my own with Audacity. For some modern sounds I recently found this: http://www.freeso...
