When Microsoft/TwelveTone made the DXi standard, there was a DXi-VSTi wrapper plugin that worked just like this. It was a pain. I've never seen anyone run any plugin non-natively without issues. Note that is not an issue with the DVD playback, but with encryption. For the uninitiated - this means that DVDs will play just fine without it, if they are not encrypted with CSS.
