Re: Crazy problem with security update, libav

That got it, thanks!!

The output confirmed my suspicion about the package. I had doubted it because it was a kxstudio version... It turns out I had made a copy/paste error last night, and added the wrong PPA (kxstudio-kde49). Removed it and I'm back to normal. Thanks again :)

Re: Screencasts with JACK audio

xfdesktop is the only command you'd missed. xfce4-panel is single-instance, so it has to be killed and restarted, similar to kde. This script does the trick: #!/bin/bash # all dependencies: # $ sudo apt-get install xserver-xephyr libav-tools jack-capture xterm init_screen () { # Set up nested X serv...

Re: Crazy problem with security update, libav

I'm seeing this today, related to kxstudio updates... I think? There's gotta be a tool out there that draws a graph to calculate the root of a conflict? $ sudo apt-get dist-upgrade Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done Calculating upgrade... Done Th...

Re: Screencasts with JACK audio

Thanks mate, I see what you mean. I've spent the last hour or so experimenting with various sync options and filters in avconv, with no luck. I can now see why perhaps the best way to do these kind of screencasts, is to use CLI tools, and learn to use a video editor and do some post-processing, rath...

Re: Screencasts with JACK audio

well, for new desktops I just need to know the commands to start new instances. some desktops, like kde plasma-desktop and unity, don't like to be started more than once, so you'll need to stop them before starting the new one on the Xephyr window. Thanks heaps for the tip. These are the kind of th...

Re: Screencasts with JACK audio

recordmydesktop is pretty much dead. And it can only encode to Theora so it's pretty useless if you want to upload your screencasts to Youtube or Vimeo. These webservices will degrade the quality even further when decoding from Theora and encoding it again to their formats. I noticed the version ha...

Screencasts with JACK audio

Hi all, TL;DR - A patched deb would be awesome! https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/recordmydesktop/+bug/621188 Even better, if someone could show me how to package debs, I'd do the rest :) I tried to setup my machine to do some screencasts today, and I had a bit of trouble getting it to work ...

Firefox text box colour fix

Hi All, I noticed a few others had issues with the dark theme and firefox clashing (which it appears is a widespread issue). Here's a solid fix I've found. It's not as hard to do as you'd think, I'm just being verbose :) Open a shell, type this: ls ~/.mozilla/firefox/ You'll see your firefox profile...

Re: 2 usb interfaces at once?

http://jackaudio.org/multiple_devices

I've heard of a guy making the asoundrc file like this:

http://www.alsa-project.org/main/index. ... el_devices

...To combine two cheap consumer cards into a multi-IO card, and it worked with jack... not sure if this is what you need?

...a hearing test made me aware of how much my poor hearing has deteriorated in the past couple of years.... The answer is to aply EQ to all my listening That is only the answer, if the question is, "How can I accelerate the deterioration of my hearing?" Sorry for OT but this sentence disturbed me....

Login manager appearance

Hi all :) I hope someone can help me... I've tried about 4 different methods to alter the login screen's theming (add a custom background, etc), but no matter what I do, no matter what is in either the xfconf/kdm/gconf config, it always shows that brushed metal ubuntu studio image, and ignores my co...

Re: Ubuntu 12.10 - any testers?

Signed up just to say, I think that (despite the tempting reasons to do so) sticking to LTS is a mistake that will lead to dependency hell, and unavailable bugfixes and feature releases. :) I completely disagree. In fact, 10.04 is still an usable system today, and I know at least 1 person that stil...
