Re: Muse 2.1 out today!

Muse is the app that convinced me to start making music on Linux (Being used to cubasis in those days) & I still love it. I find it productive and intuitive. The team are friendly & I have got help & bug fixes through the using mailing list. A great app.

Re: E17 released

I just found enlightenment counter intuitive. it's diferent from all the others. a new concept. It's like switching an OS, you gotta get used to it. With respect, I used it for several _months_ & I still maintain that it is counter intuitive. I regard that time as time wasted & am sure many on this...

Re: E17 released

you probably are using gnome/GTK for a decade? Nope, originally a KDE user until they shafted that. Quite liked window maker (was quite into dynebolic for a while). I have used Gnome, Xfce even Blackbox in my quest for the perfect desktop (tm) I just found enlightenment buggy, ugly and counter intu...

I use Bodhi which comes with Enlightenment by default, but I hate it - the first thing I do to a new Bodhi installation is install LXDE

Re: Distro Comparison, Benchmarking, Latency

I know this topic is veering all over the place but here is a thought. Could someone (more knowledgeable than me!) come up with a composition - not a genius piece, more a musical stress test, to put a rig through its paces so we could compare not only distro's but hardware and configuration. Somethi...

Best website to explain FOSS music making

Hi

I was talking to a friend about music production & he uses a windows workflow. Does anyone know of a good web page that gives a basic explanation of how & why to make music in a FOSS environment?

Re: Dream Studio + Jack/Pulse

The Dream Studio forum is really helpful as well. The chances are Dick MacInnis (the dream studio dev) will be around & answer your post himself.

Re: Old Fella New To Linux

Hi Phil I started on cassette multi tracking. It does help because a lot of the software is built to mimic the hardware that we used to use. Alsa is the Advanced Linux Sound Architecture & is the bedrock of your PC's sound - the part that makes sound work at all. Pulse is a sound server & is designe...

Re: New-comer

Hi If you use the 'export song' option on the file menu in Hydrogen you can export your Drum tracks as seperate wav files. Just look for the drop down menu that says 'Export to a single track' and change it to 'Export to seperate tracks.' You can then import the wav files to the DAW of your choice. ...

Re: Canceled Audio-Distro Side-by-Side Comparison

It has to be said that Ubuntu Studio is a different beast from stock Ubuntu. There is no unity & all the associated nonsense. In a similar vein, I am currently using Bodhi which, again, is Ubuntu based. Though an early adopter, I feel I can no longer use stock Ubuntu on usability issues alone. Howev...

X-runs can cause crackling. its happened to me.

Perhaps your system is running out of resources if it happens when you start something else?
