Re: Old Fella New To Linux

Hi Phil I started on cassette multi tracking. It does help because a lot of the software is built to mimic the hardware that we used to use. Alsa is the Advanced Linux Sound Architecture & is the bedrock of your PC's sound - the part that makes sound work at all. Pulse is a sound server & is...

Re: New-comer

Hi If you use the 'export song' option on the file menu in Hydrogen you can export your Drum tracks as seperate wav files. Just look for the drop down menu that says 'Export to a single track' and change it to 'Export to seperate tracks.' You can then import the wav files to the DAW of your choice. ...

Re: Canceled Audio-Distro Side-by-Side Comparison

It has to be said that Ubuntu Studio is a different beast from stock Ubuntu. There is no unity & all the associated nonsense. In a similar vein, I am currently using Bodhi which, again, is Ubuntu based. Though an early adopter, I feel I can no longer use stock Ubuntu on usability issues alone. H...

X-runs can cause crackling. its happened to me.

Perhaps your system is running out of resources if it happens when you start something else?

Re: Anyone know of a tool to detect BPM?

Hydrogen has tap tempo - you tap the \ key in time the music and it sets the tempo - you can then use that info in your other applications. This worked for me when I needed to remix a Cubasis project in Ardour.

Re: Thrread dedicated to arpeggios! :D ..and cheating..

i have just signed up for a free Ubuntu One account & I got 5GB of storage - that could be a lot of music. Why don't you post this on the 'How To' section of the forum. I was looking at trying a free soundcloud account, which I think limits you to 40 songs. This sounds like you get more & it...

Sorry this is OT Brian, but I was interested you were able to make this available through a Ubuntu One account. How does that work?

Frequency range of speakers & headphones

What sort of frequency range should one look for in speakers or headphones?

(I am also interested in the range of human hearing & what is the highest bit rate & frequency worth having - sorry if that is OT here)

Thanks
Guy

Program patch changes in Seq24

After a long time searching I have finally found an explanation of how to program patch changes in Seq24. Just in case anyone else needs to know it is here under 'setting an instrument':

https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Seq24

(Credit to the Arch Linux community for this one)

Re: Alsamixer - All levels to zero after reboot

Ok I put the skript in the .kde/Autostart folder. But them my system hangs on reboot. The skcipt looks like this: #!/bin/bash # restore alsamixe settings sleep 10 && alsactl restore -f ~/.config/asound.state :?: Just a thought. Have you tried running this from a terminal to see if it throws...
