My main issue is solved!!! I know this thread is pretty old now, but I finally figured out what my audio popping sound was today. Pulseaudio was automatically suspending itself to save energy... afaik I'm just running plain alsa, unless pulseaudio is enabled by default. But this occurs without jack running, I know that for sure. For the cpu frequency switching thing, is that in the bios? The only time I've heard the terms "on demand" and "performance" in that respect is ...
