Simple sampler as DSSI module?

Hi all, I know and have Fluidsynth and LinuxSampler. But I need a simple DSSI sampler module that can load wav-files. I want to use it multiple times in my sequencer Rosegarden: each drum = one instrument. I have lots of drum sounds as wav files and don't want to assemble them to soundfonts first. T...

Re: Heads up. Ardour 3.0 is now available.

It's fine to have one-job-one-tool-stuff if ... 1.) the whole setup can be saved/restored with all its settings 2.) there is a working latency compensationen overall The second part seems to be an ever-unfulfilled wish. Even integrated DAWs don't do it properly. Rosegarden doesn't do latency compen...

Re: general stability of sequencers

I'm waiting for male to push out his non-seq rewrite. The old one doesn't keep time correctly on my computer for some reason, it drifts pretty noticeably, and I also can't adjust patterns I input with my keyboard so it's sort of unusable for me at the moment. Really looking forward to the new one t...

Re: Heads up. Ardour 3.0 is now available.

I agree mostly. The more I've learned about the FLOSS world, the more I think lean-modular-yet-integrated is ideal. We need things that work together but are in distinct modules. So the NON stuff looks like the right direction. I don't think the funding is itself the cause of the problem, but it de...

Re: general stability of sequencers

I'm using ardour 3 (great daw!) with triceratops. It crashes every few mins. Trying muse 2.1, it doesn't seem to even load synths, no matter what plugin types. IRC is a ghost city. What is the most stable sequencer? Hopefully one that has an active community. Rosegarden is stable enough to work wit...

Re: Your Thoughts on Reverbs

Yes, you got it wrong. I run two instances of IR because I want 2 distinct reverb sounds on some mixes. 1 instance or IR outputs stereo. And if you have the good IR files, like the Bricasti ones that I use, they are actually qudraphonic IR files, and IR and other IR reverbs process that down to a s...

Re: Your Thoughts on Reverbs

On most mixes I run two instances of IR, using the Bricasti M7 IR files. One is set to a warm room sound for the drums (since most home-recorded drum tracks I get don't have much of a room sound), and another set to a plate. As I understood you need 2 instances of IR to load one M7-file each, one f...

LADSPA-plugin with external JACK input?

Hi all, I am looking for some gateway plugin. Rosegarden has no "real" send/return architecture in its mixer. But at least it can open a JACK output for each instrument and subgroup. That way I can feed LV2-plugins in LV2rack. But there is no way to return the signal (execpt for recording)...

Re: Your Thoughts on Reverbs

I'd probably use IR. But since it's available only as LV2 and I use Rosegarden (can only load LADSPA) I ended up with C* Plate 2x2. Sounds good and is an all-purpose reverb in stereo. There is a mono version as well. Tap Reverberator sounds like a digital delay, at least the LADSPA version that I ha...

I was doing similar stuff and wanted to use skype with my webcam's mix instead of my Foucusrite Scarlet 2i2's input:

Screencast "Schnee fällt"

I made a little Screencast showing Linux, Rosegarden, Jamin, Hexter, Whysynth and Fluidsynth in action. I fought with recordmydesktop (only recorded one audio channel with jack) and kdenlive (messed up the video's start when importing recordmydesktop's ogv-file) but finally won: http://www.youtube.c...

Re: Prog Rock with Linux

It is not true that the highest frequency digitized is output as a square wave Oh no, that's not what I meant either. I just meant that two different real life sources, a 22.05kHz sine and a 22.05kHz square, would be sampled to the same representation. The low sample frequency does not allow any di...
