Re: Connecting a synth to my laptop ?

Thanks everyone for all the info & links. I was getting disheartened & wasting a lot time getting nowhere. One brief additional Q : Could I route through an additional MIDI keyboard instead of an audio interface ? As they cost about the same I'd get extra versatility . There are some USB MI...

Re: Connecting a synth to my laptop ?

You need to exchange 2 kinds of data: 1) MIDI data for note on/off. Both from the K-Station (recording MIDI clips in Ardour) and to the K-Station (play notes, controlled by Ardour) 2) Audio data (recording audio in Ardour) The K-Station doesn't seem to have an USB connector, so you need a combined a...

Maybe MIDI Clock is missing. Did you enable MMC, SPP and MIDI Clock in View -> Options -> MIDI?

Re: Rainy Day

My son will be attending a percussion class, so we bought him the required bell kit. The day after buying it, I came home to find that he and my daughter had created this duet with the piano and the bell kit. They called it Rainy Day and asked me to record it. My younger son wanted in on the action...

Apologies for offtopic... Since so many desktop applications use Pulseaudio maybe you might rethink your "no Pulseaudio" descision, at least on the desktop PC. I've been using Linux for 13 years and never needed Pulseaudio  I am using Linux for 24 years, never liked Pulseaudio, but ...

Re: Focusrite Scarlett 18i20 2nd Gen mixer driver

geoffrey, how confident are you that you could get a 3rd gen scarlett working in Linux with access to usb dumps? I recall you wrote something about that earlier but couldn't find the post so.. Since the 3rd gen Scarletts are shipped in Mass Storage Device mode (as their support informed me) it woul...

The simpler it is for distributors and users to enable a RT kernel the more non-nerdy users will see t...

Re: Audient ID4 buggy after Firmware update? (1.03)

It looks as if the manufacturers don't test their firmware enough concerning class compliant operation.

I had to install an older firmware in my MOTU UltraLite AVB to fix class compliant operation. I recommend that you install the former firmware.

Re: Trying to cover Vangelis Alpha

The vibrato stops after a short time, it's modulated with an envelope generator, probably with - fast attack - around 1 second decay - sustain level 0 - release time doesn't matter Thnak you but... How do I do this in lmms? I know what an envelope is, but not the word envelope generator. :) I don't...

Re: DRM-free music streaming - is it possible?

Somafm.com is legal, pays royalities and doesn't use DRM. Is it also a music streaming service (i.e. you can select which track you listen) or only a radio? Digitally Imported (and its affiliated radios, ClassicalRadio, RadioTunes, JazzRadio and RockRadio) is a similarly DRM-free radio, however I w...

Re: Don't bridge ALSA and JACK through ALSA loopback and alsa_in. There's a better way.

That's strange, because Pulseaudio does a similar redirection for ALSA clients somewhere in /usr/share/alsa. Did you try to install Pulseaudio and jack-sink? On my PCs the redirection ALSA -> Pulseaudio -> jack works flawlessly. For example the squeezelite audioplayer outputs to ALSA, gets redirecte...
