God save intel_pstate
Hi all, I did a lot of tuning: kernel with HZ1000, preemptive desktop setting, cpufreqd with fancy rules (max freq when running audio programs) and so on. I have 2 Core i5 systems with 16 GB RAM each: a desktop and a notebook. Both are running Xubuntu 12.04. Now I tried Kernel 3.12 (saucy) found at ...

Re: Optimizing for JACK
With jackd running at default rtprio 10 some applications indeed get a lower prio. But some qtractor processes keep getting a high prio, so I'll stay with -P95 for jackd. TPRIO TID PID CMD 1 3762 3761 /usr/bin/jackd -p1024 -t2000 -dalsa -r44100 -p256 -n3 -M -Xseq -D -Chw:1 -Phw:1 1 3763 3761 /usr/bi...

Re: Optimizing for JACK
Hi all, I have a Core i5 CPU with 4 cores. I experience xruns only in exceptional cases, e.g. running >20 synth tracks in qtractor AND lots of plugins including 3 instances of Klangfalter AND running Jamin. Running jackd with -P95 instead of its default (10) helped a lot. No more xruns even with ne...

Optimizing for JACK
Hi all, I have a Core i5 CPU with 4 cores. I experience xruns only in exceptional cases, e.g. running >20 synth tracks in qtractor AND lots of plugins including 3 instances of Klangfalter AND running Jamin. But I think I could improve the system further. My thoughts wander in the following direction...

Re: Qtractor and other mixer?
OK, I compiled NON and tried by myself. NON mixer's strips can be ordered in multiple rows, at least on 2 on my 1920x1080 screen. But it's a lot of work to connect everything. Not sure if that makes life easier :) maybe it all makes a good case for NSM ? ;) Or for ... - post-fader sends - multiple ...

Qtractor and other mixer?
Hi all, after using Rosegarden for some time I am exploring Qtractor and I like it very much: LV2 plugins, effect sends, automation, MIDI-editor in a separate window like Rosegarden... fine. But the builtin mixer doesn't suit my needs: effect sends are pre-fader and I need them post-fader. I use MID...

Re: A better jazz bass
Windows is all about ripping off users. That's all. Closed Source. Backdoors. Wrapping samples in obscure formats that need a proprietary player. License keys. Hardware dongles. Phone home programs. When I bought my audio interfaces I got dongles and licenses for commercial DAWs, of course requiring...

Re: jack2 has no sound when going through audio interface
I don't use names, so I nail the interface to a fixed position: /etc/modprobe/usb-audio-interfaces.conf: # Mit Logitch Webcam und Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 options snd_usb_audio index=2,3 vid=0x46d,0x1235 pid=0x809,0x8006 So my Logitech webcam is on position 2 and my Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 is on positi...

Re: Bitwig Release 26.03.2014
@stanlea: You're right, so far I haven't found any "best" plugin format, and as I mentioned linux presents some uniquely horrible problems for plugins with custom GUIs (and I know there are some who think these unnecessary, but, for a variety of reasons I think they are essential, and I'm...

Re: How do you sync your projects between workstations?
It's a thing about reachability. If none of the machines has a fixed ip address (by your provider or a v4/v6-tunnelprovider) then you need some kind of server. That could be a service like Dropbox or a self-hosted service like Owncloud. Or a rsync server. I have an OpenVPN based VPN between my house...

Re: Jack Output over Bluetooth?
I'm not sure there enough bandwidth for high quality audio. isn't it only 1mbps connection. I used to have a Bluetooth headset for my phone and the sound quality was awfully. all midrange no highs. unless It's improved since tgen Sound quality is good enough to do some arrangements and record midi ...
