Re: Hello everyone!
Welcome and thank you for offering the quid-pro-quo (I'm certainly more musician than Linux, but Linux is, by far, the least annoying of the 3 OS for my taste). To add to the database, the Focusrite Scarlett is a big favorite, from what I've read. I don't have one because when I was in the market fo...

Re: Thank-a-developer day
We don't like being forced to interact with animate objects. Funny, when I first saw this thread that's what came to my mind first. Of course I feel very grateful for all the great software, but I kinda picture most of developers as guys who see programming as sort of "solving complex sudokus", som...

Re: VST3 support in Linux?
OK, got it, my mistake was that I didn't know there existed native VSTs for Linux too. I just assumed "VST means Windows, and the way to run it on Linux is through LinVST" (which I've done successfully often with VST 2; LinVST converts .dll to .so, and you're ready to go). The Izotope plugin I tried...

Re: VST3 support in Linux?
Native Reaper in Linux support VST3, you can check this with U-he, Surge or recent Auburn plugins Could you please elaborate on how you do that? I use Native Reaper, and recently tried to use Izotope RX 7 Decrackler. I didn't know about the version 2-3 divide, so I tried to run it through LinVST as...

Re: is Hydrogen better than Ardour for drums
I can't help but mention another option, I don't know if very popular but just to put it on the table... I used to have this kind of problems. Ardour (version 4 I think), and later Qtractor's Midi editor were both highly unstable, lacking basic functionality like reliable copy-paste (!) and sometime...

Re: Getting "cannot allocate memory" error, although running in real time
any idea of what they could mean? They all happen within a second, so I think this is simply part of the process of shutting down JACK. Nothing to worry about. :) Yup, I've been using my system some more these days and it's rock solid (I'm able to record midi drums LIVE for the first time ever!), s...

Re: Getting "cannot allocate memory" error, although running in real time
In the case of Ubuntu Studio 19, didn't have to install it, it came with it already.Linuxmusician01 wrote:How did y'all install jack_control?

Re: Getting "cannot allocate memory" error, although running in real time
Success! Thank you so much merlyn, the jack_control command finally did the trick: good bye to the cannot allocate error, for all qjackctl configurations, and even after rebooting. There's a peculiar side effect, though. Things go well during the session (although I still have to test further), but ...

Re: Getting "cannot allocate memory" error, although running in real time
Thank you for all the answers. This error is not really critical, my system is quite stable now, but I wanted to "iron out" the problem just in case it could influence others... So I think by the moment I'm going to live with it and wait until Ubuntu updates systemd (or better said, until Ubuntu upd...

Re: Getting "cannot allocate memory" error, although running in real time
Thank you so much to both of you for your suggestions... @Linuxmusician01: I've tried the command you provide and, on the positive side, the output shows no "lockdown" message. I opened a project in Reaper and it seemed to work and be very stable. However, it seems to have a very high latency (~0.5 ...

Getting "cannot allocate memory" error, although running in real time
Hi, I recently installed Ubuntu Studio 19, and I'm in the process of optimizing it for my laptop. I recently completed the tests of Realtime Config Quick Scan, with everything showing "good" with the exception of "Realtime kernel" (a requirement that, as I understand according to this forum and othe...

Re: Where do you "Set $SOUND_CARD_IRQ"?
Thank you again for all the responses. I love it when I get to know a bit better how everything works at the "guts" level... @Crocoduck: thank you for the system to check IRQ. I was doing it in a different way and I wasn't sure if I did it right; I checked interrupts with cat /proc/interrupts , look...

Re: Where do you "Set $SOUND_CARD_IRQ"?
Thank you again for all the info. It's been very useful and of great clarification to me. are you on the latest version of the script? Aaah, nope, sorry, just noticed. I found that script a long time ago, and kept it in my computer; I didn't know that it was an "alive" project, and was afraid of not...

Re: Where do you "Set $SOUND_CARD_IRQ"?
Thank you for the responses. The video is unfortunately unwatchable, at least for my eyes/screen  I can't distinguish what the terminal says. So I tried raboof's command: $ SOUND_CARD_IRQ=129 ./realTimeConfigQuickScan.pl and I get: Can't locate QuickScanEngine.pm in @INC (you may need to insta...

Where do you "Set $SOUND_CARD_IRQ"?
Hi, I'm going through the points of Realtime Config Quick Scan script in order to tune my new system, so far with great success, but now I've found something I don't know how to do: ** Set $SOUND_CARD_IRQ to the IRQ of your soundcard to enable more checks. Where exactly do you set that variable? I'v...
