Re: No sound from Hydrogen
"Could not start Jack!" Argh! Anyway, obviously some sort of user-error. Anyway, I've got Hydrogen working on another machine (Ubuntu Studio + KX.) Regarding documentation, I'd love to get in on that; as the most inept member of the LinuxMusicians forum, I feel uniquely qualified to perfor...

No sound from Hydrogen
Title says it all. Running Ubuntu 12.04, fresh install of KX. Also notice sound coming from laptop speakers as well as amplifier (just connected via headphone jack.) Cadence checks out fine (but why the warning icon next to my kernel? I thought the 3.0 and higher kernels were plenty fast?) Noticed P...

Re: List of KXStudio changes for 12.04.1/2
Bouncing icon disabled? Sign me up! (Seriously, I hate that thing.) Looks great. Hey, I've had trouble installing nonstandard distros from USB (my PC's a laptop, optical drive NFG . . .) Any suggestions? (I've used Pendrive Linux Universal installer which makes you choose from a list of distros.) An...

Re: Exporting with tempo markers in Hydrogen
Good question; I just tried the one song, using the standard GM kit. Mind you, it could easily be a problem with Jack . . . that program is the main reason I still record in Windows. (Not saying it's faulty, just temperamental. Ironically Hydrogen works out-of-the-box in Windows, wheras in Linux it'...

Re: Exporting with tempo markers in Hydrogen
Argh. So the git now installs by copy/pasting 3 lines of code (thanks Falk!) and it exports with no complaints about tempo markers, but now I have a WAV file that consists of 5 minutes of silence.

Re: Exporting with tempo markers in Hydrogen
Hi Mauser, Sorry, still having trouble here; Sourceforge lists the "latest" version as 0.9.5.1, which doesn't make sinse. They also list 0.9.6 Beta 2, which looks like it's been worked on recently, but I want to make sure I'm dealing with the right file. If possible, can you leave a link? ...

Re: Exporting with tempo markers in Hydrogen
Hey Mauser, I installed Hydrogen to my Ubuntu partition but am getting a warning that it can't include tempo changes on export. Tried installing thru Software Centre and Synaptic, both gave me version 0.9.6 which is listed as the latest, unstable release on Hydrogen's webpage. BTW just clumsy wordin...

Exporting with tempo markers in Hydrogen
I'm making click-tracks for preproduction and Hydrogen is great for that, but when I export to .WAV all the tempo changes are ignored and the track is rendered all at one tempo. I'm using the Windows version, not sure how that affects things; it seems to work just like the Linux version, but maybe s...

Re: which usb audio interface?
Awesome, I came here to start this exact thread. Woftune, you win the prize for perseverance; if you say the Alesis works in Linux, problem solved. Except for one . . . does it have phantom power for both channels? The website says basically "2 channels, with phantom power!" but usually yo...

Re: New to digital recording much less Ubuntu
I haven't gotten far w. Linux yet, but here's the important stuff that I remember going from Windows to Ubuntu: - You can plug your guitar right into the mic jack and record with low-latency, just like on a Mac. (You can do it in Windows too, if you install ASIO4all.) Use any 1/8" stereo cable ...

Re: Jack: the nighmare begins . . .
As Columbo might say, "Just one more thing . . . " So latency is nil, VSTs work, all's good, but I get dry signal bleeding through. Nothing in the Pulse controls does anything, and turning down the mic level in the Alsa mixer kills everything, the main signal and the dry bleed. I know I'll...

Re: Jack: the nighmare begins . . .
Thanks guys, all good. Didn't realize there was a "sound settings" and a seperate "mixer" in Ubuntu Studio.
Got Jack running realtime n/p, in my setup the Grub menu comes up on every boot so it's no trouble to select the Realtime kernel.
Cheers,
m.

Re: Jack: the nighmare begins . . .
Hi Falk, Well, I unclicked "realtime" in Cadence Jack setup, as it's not showing the realtime kernel anyway, and did "force restart." Ran the code you provided and got the answer: cadence-session-start -s Initiated PulseAudio successfully! JACK Started Successfully Still no audio...

Jack: the nighmare begins . . .
OK, so I finally went with Ubuntu Studio & KX. Tried to install KX Realtime (not PAE) kernel and Synaptic says it's installed, but the bootscreen lists "generic PAE." Cadence says Jack is turned off, and realtime not available. QJack won't start it, gives the message that returns to ha...

Audio Recorder
I have VirtualRecorder on my phone and it works very, very well for acoustic-level recordings. The boost function is nice, and overall sound is great. However, even with boost off and limiter on, trying to record a band at full volume is impossible, all you get is fuzz. Anyone know of an app that ca...
