Re: KX mini manual

I only started with GNU/Linux for the first time just over a year ago. Holy crap, I assumed it was longer than that. I dabbled in Linux almost right away, but it was always easier to go back to Windows, much as I hate it. I'm a very big believer in starting with something, anything. If it's no good...

Re: KX mini manual

My notes aren't those of an expert, they're compilations of what I've done as I've gone from totally confused to kinda getting it. I'll be happy to write something clear once I'm clear myself. Sure, but you know a lot. Let me tell a short story: about 3 years ago I didn't know how to turn a compute...

Re: Why is JACK such a POS?

OMG, we're not allowed to swear here? OK, I got the logs . . . the error message is 10 000 characters or so, much too long to post. Here's the event that snapped my normally calm demeanor ; ) Eventually I got one minute's use out of Reaper, then the inputs disappeared. Sun Mar 17 17:36:29 2013: port...

Why is JACK such a POS?

WTF, JACK is (...): if you even look at it wrong it crashes. Just installed KX on Ubuntu Studio: the first time it was stopped, though set to startup on login. Started it, changed the settings (just selected inputs/outputs, using an Alesis i04 for the record, and changed the buffer size, nothing fan...

Re: "Failed to fetch . . ."

OK, that was weird: went to close Synaptic and it warned me that there were still marked changes that hadn't been applied, when I applied them, boom, there were the missing packages.

I guess I could delete the post but I'm still curious what happened . . .

"Failed to fetch . . ."

OK, so I just installed the PPAs in Ubuntu Studio, and I forgot . . . every time I try this, there's an error regarding missing packages: the one that worries me is the WINE stuff, not too concerned about the plugins. Am I doing something wrong? Should I try installing the packages again? Anyone els...

Re: Trouble installin 12.04.1 from usb

Hey Falk, Actually tried the USB Creator early on, that didn't work for me either. I'm nursing a cold so literally having nothing better to do, just went nuts trying everything: used different machines, Windows, Ubuntu, Mint, different pendrives . . . Anyway, I've never used the combo you recommend ...

Re: KX mini manual

I'll help somewhat at some point. I've made lots of general notes myself. No rush, do you need another few months to think about it? Wolfie, you've written a whole g*****n novel about your "experiences" with KX. Falk, you answer each and every yahoo who has a problem (including myself, th...

Re: Trouble installin 12.04.1 from usb

Installed Ubuntu Studio via Unetbootin, no problems, just like every other time I install from USB. Near as I can tell, the issue is unique to KXStudio. Frankly I feel KX is over-designed: it has multiple tools for every conceivable application, but it's like dealing with JACK: always a headache on ...

Re: Trouble installin 12.04.1 from usb

Hey Todd, thanks for replying again. - You're right, it takes about 5 seconds to do an MD5 sum, all good there. - I meant the pendrive was formatted, and the partition I wrote to was 150GB - re. installer, I was referring to Pendrive Linux's Universal USB Installer, if you look at the download page ...

Re: Trouble installin 12.04.1 from usb

- I've never used the md5 check; I know I should, but usually everything's fine . . . I'm getting the same result with multiple downloads and types anyway. -Yep, formatted, the partition is 150 GB or so. -Couldn't run the disk check from KX install, didn't even get that far. Update though, I just in...

Trouble installin 12.04.1 from usb

Can't figure it out, I've tried different sticks, both 32 and 64 bit versions, from Windows and Linux, using Universal USB installer and Startup Disk Creator, nothing works for me. When checking the disk on my Universal USB version it kept coming up with "***** , no such file exists" Start...

Re: Frequency range of speakers & headphones

Really, the question is moot: every pair of headphones you see will advertise a frequency range that includes the entire scope of human hearing. What you're looking for is a set of studio headphones; many manufacturers make their 'phones sound superficially "better" by cranking the highs a...

Re: KXStudio tutorials requests

I'm very much with AlwaysANewb on this one. Windows users, new to Linux, are typically unprepared for the catastrophic failures that can come with the added flexibility and power of Linux. (What happened to my window-borders? Why does my computer no longer produce sound? How can it be this much of a...

Re: Testing: KXStudio 12.04.1 ISO (pre-release)

This is gonna be awesome. Curious, does the iso use the latest development version of Hydrogen? (Hoping I can use it to export songs with tempo changes.)
